I was thinking about upgrading my REC to the MYGIG RER at some point and was curious if and how the VES would work with the MYGIG? Is the VES still able to access and controll the other modes of MYGIG like it does with the REC (like being able to listen to SAT radio, CDs, or FM radio through the headphones independently of what's being listened to by the front seat users)?
From what I have been reading, using a Lockpick will allow these functions.

In a word, Nope!!
The VES that is in your '06 is a completely different animal to the ones that are in the '08 and newer cars.
The main difference, but only one of many, is your VES has an onboard CD/DVD player and the VES that is companion to the MyGig doesn't. That version is dependent on the MyGig for it's various inputs and outputs.
But, and here's the fun part of this, when you put a MyGig in your car you'll be unplugging the '06 VES, but it is still completely functional(no radio inputs though) as a standalone unit, using the factory headphones. So unless you have a real compelling reason for jury-rigging the older VES and the MyGig together put the MyGig in and let your backseat passengers enjoy their own entertainment.
Part 2 of this is, you can take an input off of the old VES and put it into the MyGig as long as you have the LockPick A/V cable. You'll find a thread here on the Forum that will tell you how to cut into the video line on the VES, but unfortunately I don't have time to dig the link up this evening. If you search the Forum you will find it, likely in the Knowledge Base.
so how does the 08 VES work with mygig?

I don't think it would work. The radio isn't the only thing that affects the ves.The fcm and build configuration programmed into it are pretty important.I could be wrong,I have never tried it.I have installed ves systems in cars with mygig and they don't work until you update the build configuration.
there have been people who used the older VES with the mygig upgrade
