Im at the installers troubleshooting an issue. I want to bypass the factory amp altogether but the installer says I cannot use the factory headunit without the factory amp. Right now it sounds like whine and lots of crap. Can anybody point us in the right direction I would be most gracious. If I have to splurge and get a aftermarket amp I wil but I like the astetics of factory better.
what are you trying to do here?
We're trying to work on the same thing. Won't have answers for a few days...maybe.

Fred,
I want to keep the factory headunit and bypass the factory amp. I would like to use a lin-level converter to my new MB Quart amps, I get tons of noise FROM wiring behind the factory amp. I thought if I bypass the amp I would get cleaner sound. When the installer tries to bypass he gets no sound.
The outputs FROM the factory head unit are high level speaker outputs. They go directly to the factory amplifier.
Therefore they are useable if you have a line level converter and you can run an outboard amp easily.
The wires to the amplifier are the following:
Radio pin A18- Radio Left Rear +: Dark Green / DarkBlue (amp pin A7)
Radio pin A19- Radio Left Rear - : Dark Green / Orange (amp pin A19)
Radio pin A21- Radio Right Rear +: Grey / Dark Blue (amp pin A8 )
Radio pin A20- Radio Right Rear -: Grey / Orange (amp pin A19)
In addition to these, there are unused pins in the radio if you have the 6 speaker system:
Radio pin A10- Radio Front Left Door +
Radio pin A9- Radio Front Left Door -
Radio pin A7- Radio Front Right Door +
Radio pin A8- Radio Front Right Door -
Coming out of the amplifier there are a host of wires (the amp controls the fade FROM front to back and throws some DSP in there as well) for all the speakers (all six are connected separately)
Amp pin B1- Frt Lt Door +: Grey / Violet
Amp pin B7- Frt Lt Door -: Grey / Yellow
Amp pin A1- Dash Left +: Grey / Orange
Amp pin A10- Dash Left -: Grey / Yellow
Amp pin A2- Dash Right +: Grey / Dark Green
Amp pin A11- Dash Right -: Grey / Light Green
Amp pin B2- Frt Rt Door +: Dark Green / Violet
Amp pin B8- Frt Rt Door -: Dark Green / Yellow
Amp pin B4- Rear Right +: Dark Green / Brown
Amp pin B12- Rear Right -: Yellow / Grey
Amp pin B3- Rear Left +: Dark Green / Tan
Amp pin B9- Rear Left -: Dark Green / Grey
The 300C cars with centre channel use these pins:
Amp pin A3- Centre +: Grey / Brown
Amp pin A12- Centre -: Grey / Orange
And with the optional subwoofer:
Amp pin B5- Sub+: Grey / Brown
Amp pin B13- Sub -: Dark Green / Brown
In ORDER for you to use an outboard amp and for everything to work properly with the factory head unit as the control centre you would have to completely remove the factory amplifier FROM the car. As far as I know the pin numbers are the same for all models. The 300C cars with the extra speakers have an upgraded amplifier as far as I know.
Good luck!
Henry
Henry, thank you very much, I hope this information is received with open minds. They have called DEI, DM and somebody's brother they all said don't mess with it get a new head-unit.
I'm not deadset against a new headunit but the conversion leaves a little to be desired and then it starts screaming HEY STEAL ME. I might even mount it in the center console and keep the factory headunit in place.
Make sure to give us an UPDATE when all of this is done. There are others ready to jump on it.
Thanks
Henry's info is dead on with an installer in Detroit that posted the same on Dodgeboy.net. Without tapping the unused pins, you will lose fade control on the factory unit. I'm doing this on Sat. as well.
Hey Ron, aren't you finished with that thing yet ?!! Sounds like good advice is coming your way FROM Henry and others. Call or email me when its's finished, I'd love to come by and see/hear it.
-Harry
Stop that right now! Your going to poke somebody's eye out!
I still havent resolved it. I guess I'm going to do it myself. I dont mind if I loose fader control. I can dial that in with my amp it has seperate gain controls for front/rear.
It's been like pulling teeth...I'm supposed to be slow at work now, ha! I'm kicking off the project in McKinney tomorrow (buddy's shop). Give me a call when you head back home and I'll give you the update....then for the demonstration (hopefully).Originally Posted by 44MAGNUMHarry
