Joystick for Rec Nav Unit

I have made an inquiry to the Manufacturers rep to see what it will take to get a shipment of the RKJXT1E12001 ALPS joystick. This is the unit with the shorter shaft that some have replaced the joystick with.

The older Joysticks are in, end of life production. This rep is going to make a final purchase of these units, I have inquired to purchase a minimum quantity of these units (100-200) units. This means these joystcks will never be manufactured by ALPS again. I have tried to find another manufacturer of this unit but no luck.

The replacement unit that I have now is not the exact replacement, it is only a 4 position output unit. The feel of the the new unit is the same as the old unit, in my opinion the new encoder will work but it would require more turns. Also this encoder is a little taller.

I will experiment with the newer unit in the futrue, but until I get answer, this is all I have for now.

Ok here is the scoop, I have talked to the Distributor for ALPS, they are going to do another buy. I have put my name in the hat for a 1 time buy of the right units. I will not know anything until next week, if and when they will be ordering the parts. This part HAS been obsoleted, by the manufacturer. I am going to have to buy somewhere in the range of 100-200 units.

I have been also told by members here that Online components have the parts, this is not true, the units on the site are allocated to another customer and they are not available to buy at any quantity, trust me on this I have talked to them directly. They are in the process of removing the part from the site to stop the confusion. Trust me guys I am doing my best to get us some of the right Joysticks.

Once I have more info I will be offering the units for sale, and will sell them until they are gone.

Also I was told that ALPS has increased the cost on these drastically, I mean more than 400%, this is robbery in my book!

Update:

I can only get my hands on 20 units thats all, now for the BAD news the manufacturer has raised the the cost on these 600% yes thats right 600%. The joysticks will cost...you sitting down..... $42.00 each.
I about fell out when he told me this and he said I could only order 20, so who needs one now that I have a source. Also it will take 8 weeks to get them. I am going to see if I can squeeze them for a few more, so guys be careful with those joysticks or be willing to upgrade to something else. There will be NO more after this order...final buy!!
The only unit available will be the 4 position unit. I may take mine out and see what the difference will be with the 4 position unit. Updates will follow.
I will start a new thread to get a list of who wants one, but please if you say you want one, please buy when they come in this will be a big investment on my part.
