    HELP audio pros

I got an 05 rt magnum, someone before me had a big system in it. the cd player lights up and will go to a station or show a track on a cd ok but there is no sound. I found the factory amp and that had been unplugged and wired into....going toward the deck. Ive got a JVC cd player that I want to put in it and bypass the factory amp like Im guessing they did. is this possible?? I cant use the stock deck without the factory amp right?? please help

You should be able to install the factory deck and hook it up to the speaker wires that are ran to bypass the factory amp (providing the bypass was done correctly). I would think that you could also install the factory radio and leave the amp bypassed also. (The factory radio has speaker level outputs.)

If the car was equipped with a factory amp, I don't think you can bypass the amp with a factory radio. If it were a factory radio that did not require an amp, then it will have hi level outputs. If it is a factory radio that uses an amp, the output signal will be low level. But there shouldn't be any reason you can't bypass it with an aftermarket radio.

I would suggest using a 9 volt battery with a piece of wire on the positve and negative terminals to test to make sure you are on the correct speaker wires. If you are running on the input side, you will get nothing. If you are on the output side of the amp, you will hear the speaker make a "pop" or "scratch" sound. This will tell you if you are on the output side of the amp.

When you connect the wires to the terminals on the battery, you will use these two leads to touch to either the pins on the harness, or the wires that are being tapped into already. You may need to keep one wire on the same wire terminal while you move the other lead to different wires to find individual speakers.

Make sure the car is off when doing the test, that way if the factory amp is still hooked up, you don't have to worry about backfeeding the amp and causing possible damage.

hey thanks shuan, I havent recieved alot of feedback on this thread, I know I had a thinderbird once and when the factory amp went there were issues with getting a radio in the car at all(long time ago, dont remember what it was) I checked and the wiring harness is 150 if the car has a stock amp or 50 if it doesnt have one!!! Jesus, long gone are the days of 10 dollar harnesses huh?? waiting to see if I can use the non amp harness in this car with bypassing it. someone tapped into alot of the wires on the harness and they were left there so it shouldnt be that hard to test.

If you are going to run an aftermarket head unit without the factory amp, then you should not need the $150 harness. That harness allows the aftermarket communicate through the data wires to the factory amp.

The $50 harness is basically a factory harness connection and a 12v ignition emulator since our radios do have an actual ignition lead running to them.

If I was in the same position as you, I would skip the harness all together. I would wire up the aftermarket headunit to the speakers wires and find a 12v ignition lead from somewhere in the dash. More than likely the cigarette lighter. I can't remember if its the lighter in the ash tray or the power outlet in the center console that can be turned to a 12v ignition source by moving the fuse over. I know it can be done, just can't remember which power outlet source is the one that is switched.
