Dude, thats like the 2nd best Eclipse HU behind the 6600. Those things are AMAZING! Best HU's on the market, better than Pioneer/Alpine/everything. They are a must have and I do not see why you wouldnt be able to use your steering wheel controls...

the 5500 is very nice. i have the 6600 and love it. navigation is better than pioneer, kenwood, jvc, and alpine combined. i'm not gonna lie though, plan on reading the manual if nothing else for specific features. most of the bad reviews for eclipse radios are from people who are too damn lazy to read the manual to figure out how to do what they want. and if you want to keep steering wheel controls just go to pac-audio.com and see if the swi-ecl, or whatever the eclipse one is called, works with your unit. you will also need the swi-can.

I have the 6600 also. I had the AVX5000 before this one but wanted double din with Nav. The 6600 works great and especially good with the I-Pod adapter which I use non stop. I would recommend Eclipse over anything else for a Double Din Nav Unit.

I would just break it down to what you want. If you want a good navigation system I would go with Eclipse, slight bit faster and a tad bit more accurate. If you want to go with a better Media rich system I would go with the AVIC. The resolution in the AVN Series from Eclipse is 400x234 and in the Pioneer AVIC is 1440x234. it looks better too. My fiancee's Lexus has a Eclipse AVN6610 and my Mercedes has a AVIC Z1. I like mine better for I do not use the navigation much but since I hooked up the VSS it is more accurate then the AVN. and the Vehicle Information display is pretty cool too, I have it set to show me MPH, Lateral G's and RPM. Very Accurate.
For the DVD's it is tops plus I have a 30gb HDD in the AVIC. My fiancee wishes she would have gotten the AVIC for the HDD, Ipod and Bluetooth but I may get her the AVN5495 since she only uses it for her Ipod, Sirius, her phone and Navigation, and she does not watch movies very much if ever.
I wish I could have the best of it all 5volt pre-outs instead of 2.2v preouts. I do love mine for the NAVTraffic though... but I may be switch to sirius for it is cheaper.

i thought that it was a double din unit.... im looking for something with good video quality and audio control im looking to put headrest and sunvisor monitors in and im going to have 4 alpine type rs in the trunk i was also looking at the jvc kd-nx5000

It is a double din.
5500 and 6600 are doubles...and type r's are loud

the AVIC Z1 and Z2 are Double Din as well... so if it is video I would go with the AVIC Z1 or Z2 they both have better res then the eclipse. but then again if you are running the Type R's it may be better to go for the 5v Pre-outs and then just get high res monitors for the other monitors.

Anyone ever have issues with the 6600 (I have the 6610)?
My TPM system throws errors all the time, as well as the airbag light coming on and the back-up assist light bar (in the rear of the cabin) & mirrors going nuts in reverse.
I removed the PAC can-bus adapter and eclipse steering wheel control and that seems to have fixed the airbag light & reverse issues, but the TPM error still comes up. I am wondering if it could be the head unit itself?
I had all new speakers, subs, and amps for a while with the stock head unit and never had any issues. It was only after adding the AVN6610, bluetooth module, sirius module (for traffic), ipod module, and steering wheel controls that this started.
Any ideas?
