    Factory UCONNECT problems

I purchased the Factory Uconnect mirror with the auto dim and also needed a harness that plugs INTO the mirror and the to the left front pillar where the other end of the harness plugs in. Okay that should have been it. Well the auto dim is working okay but the Uconnect is not I have a MotoV710 phone, when I push the buttons on the mirror I get nothing. Does this unit need to be "woke up" with the computer so the car recognizes it or what? I have the 6-disc receiver and according to the Owners Man. it will work any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a procedure that you need to run to have the Uconnect recognize your phone where they transmit a password between the two. It should be in the users manual.

I should also add that if you press the button and it does not talk that there may be some kind of disconnect between the car and the uconnect.

V710 has Bluetooth disabled by default. ENable it on the phone and follow the instructions in the manual to train.

Well, the problem might be, did you install the u-connect module? I think that the mirror is not the "brains" of the system. There is probably a module in the dash that is the brians of the u-connect.

I'm gathering FROM your post, you have a car that had no uconnect and installed the mirror and when you hit the button on the mirror, the uconnect is supposed to come alive and it's not. Even before pairing your phone to the car, you need to hit the uconnect button on the mirror to wake it up. If that's not working, you have a uconnect problem.

Make sure that all you need is the mirror, I think there might be another electronic box that you need to install.

Or if the brains of the system is just the mirror, then that cable is not connected to the back of the radio. Cause when you hit the button on the mirror the uconnect system wakes up. if you are not getting that then don't worry about the phone yet. You have to get the uconnect system to respond first.

I would be interested in knowing what you paid for the mirror, as I have the after market in my car and yes there is a module that contains the brains that is mounted under the dash and would be located in the area where your right knee sits. Apparently you have to DROP the knee bolsters to install it, but according to u-connect tech service, it should only take about 45 mins to install the whole system.

That is what is going on, I just talked to the dealership and they said they have to program it in. I paid $170.00 for the mirror and the harness was $26.00

Ok, guess the brains are in the mirror. Let us know how you make out getting it programmed at the dealership.

and another thing.... well I have looked at all the tech info I could about this thing and apparently there is a module that goes somewhere else, supposedly at the drvr knee bolster but I have looked all over and cannot find an empty harness anywhere.
I did talk to a parts guy and he could only find an item called "telematics" inthe tech DATA it is called a "module hands free" but they have no info on anything with that label.
If there are any of you who have this option and would be willing to look. How about letting me know. I am willing to let the service guys try to program it, I don't think they know alot about these cars yet. You would think Chrysler could provide an exploded view of all the main components for this option they seem just as lost as I am
    Thanks

There is another module it is located behind the glove box, I did get a part number don't know exact price, but I know I am going to eat the big on it but I have this mirror and a nice new phone and damn it I'm worth it! :D
You know the ironic thing is Iam going to upgrade the radio to an after market unit so that will probably kill my uconnect LOL

Why don't you people just phone u-connect technical and they can tell you everything you wanted to know and were afraid to ask. The phone # should be in the manual. I threw mine out.

You are right. Looking at the SM the "handsfree module" is located behind the glove box as well as the harness connected to it.

I would be courios to know how much the behind the glove box module costs? And if this works once that is installed. So far you're at $200. which is what I paid for the dealership uconnect aftermarket FROM Chrysler. I would have gladdly paid a little more for the factory system. I don't get all the benifits such as display of incoming numbers on my nav unit. This is interesting, why they didn't have me go this route is disturbing.

If I understood the Parts dept. correctly that module will cost around $300 so I am not better off. I think the reason they don't offer it at the dealership is the work involved in installing, it is probably beyond most of the tech know how. I mean I would let them change my oil but I would n't want them messing w/my electrical.
I had to give them a VIN # FROM a magnum that had this option installed just to ORDER it they do not consider it an "accessory" it is a" replacement part" go figure.......
