I went w/ the Kenwood. It's just plain awesome. The Eclipse isn't a bad unit, but I've just never been a big fan of their products as far as quality is concerned. I think either one will make you pretty happy.

One thing I'm not crazy about - and this applies to both - is that they are kinda slow to respond to your input. They're friggin' computers, it takes them a second to process requests and update the screen. Easy to get used to though.

The Kenwood uses Garmin navigation - which means you get all the free updates from Garmin's site. IMHO that's pretty friggin' sweet.

I ended up going with the Kenwood myself. I did a side by side comparison of the specs and the Kenwood had it beat.

I don't think you get free map updates, only firmware updates for free.

The map and data updates are usually around $100.

Got a link for the free updates you are referring to? Maybe I can start saving $100 a year.

    Thanks

They look good... I mean, as good as anything can look on a 7" screen anyway :-) Color is good, contrast is good, brightness is good (and it's all adjustable anyway).

I haven't tried yet, just got the head unit less than a month ago. But, I believe any map updates will be free through Garmin. I know a lot of their smaller hand-helds are going that route too.

I sell both Kenwood and Eclipse. Both are great units in functionality and quality. The 3D mapping on the Eclipse is awesome. We sell more of the Eclipse navs than the Kenwood. Probably because of the 3 year warranty if dealer installed. Also, Kenwood nav updates are about $100.00 from Garmin.

So I take it both cost for nav updates right?
Your company offers a warrenty on one but not the other? Are the factory warrentys the same?
