Detailed images/diagrams for REC head unit?

I'm looking for something that labels every little "I" and "O" of the REC nav head unit. I might be able to do some cool stuff if I can just get started. I just want to tinker with it myself. Though, I don't want to go in blind. I looked all over canhack.org and didn't see anything. Does the service manual provide what I'm looking for?

    Uh, slightly off topic...

Look for the link for the service manual and the world will be yours. You should find it on here with a search.

The nav? Depending on what you want, I have some pictures of the guts...

I actually found a little of what I'm searching for over on the 300Cforums, including that picture. Pinouts are definitely something I'm seeking in all this. It's becoming a reality for me that the nav screen simply won't accept anything except for composite video, which kinda sucks only because of the lack of clarity for my purpose (carputer). I'll probably end up shipping my unit off to Dom and just getting it done and give up on my dreams until the right combination of items fall into place...

I'm sure I'll be plenty happy having a modded Xbox as the hub for everything, but I was hoping to use a PC... maybe later.

Now I need to figure out the best way to get audio in to my stock nav unit without an FM modulator. I have an REC with no VES... what are my options?

You could get a RGB-VGA converter and replace the LCD with a VGA LCD of the same size... That is, if you were insistant on keeping the REC unit in place as opposed to replacing the entire unit. Too bad a lot of the touchscreen LCD's online are fairly low res also. There's room to make a pretty sweet carputer, add in gps and you've got it all.

I'm looking at the amplifier diagram and it looks like the radio connects to it using four 18ga wires. C1-18, C1-19, C1-20, and C1-21. Are these 4-channel low-levels? Could I tap them to obtain front and rear full-range signals? Or does the presence of the stock amp make them transmit different signals? Which device applies the frequency cutoffs - the amp or the HU?

Well, I'm not sure a VGA LCD would even interface with the HU, assuming you could find one with the same power specs and dimensions, so that might mean giving up being able to see the stock HU features... The screen resolution is fine, I'm sure, it's just the crap interlaced composite signal that's the problem. I'm willing to bet that the screen has a 800x480 resolution - more than sufficient for a carputer/Xbox, but it won't look very sharp over a composite connection. You wouldn't want a higher resolution anyway with a screen that small.

Sheesh, maybe I should just swap out the entire console with a 15.4" touchscreen widescreen LCD flipped 90-degrees... but I'm so desperate to keep it stock looking!

Basically, I want to do this, but not ghetto-looking.
    http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=47181

If I disassemble and squeeze the Xenarc 7" touchscreen in front of the stock nav unit, then connect the nav to the screen using the native RGB/composite, I would be the master of all I survey. direct VGA input, touch screen controls...

I was also thinking of binding the steering wheel controls to buttons on a media center remote or something so I could navigate songs on the carputer through the steering wheel... Man, I'm geeking out...

The Charger in this pic at ABG Forged/ Made Autosports has that type of system in it, complete with wireless keyboard. Really quite impressive.
