I can answer a couple of your questions:

    1. If you have the Boston system then the door and rear speakers are 6X9. The door speakers need to be shallow mount speakers. Not enough room for normal height speakers.

    2. CHECK the how to's section there is a detailed explanation on how to remove the door panels to get to the speakers. Unfortunately you have to remove those door panels to get to the door speakers.

Not sure how to remove the rear speakers. I can CHECK the service manual for you if no one knows or has done it. I will watch this post to see the responses.

Change the 6x9 in the front doors (I'd change all the 6x9s) to high quality 6-1/2" round speakers.
Sound quality-wise there is no comparison.

6x9 to 6-1/2" adapters are easy to find at many car audio shops.

I guess crappy aint the exact specs your lookin for?
Shame they put the boston name on em. Just makes Boston Acoustics look bad.
I can't crank my stock system past 28 without mondo distortion.
A system will be the last thing I do on my ride but it's definatly gonna have to be done.
I wouldnt even sell the stock stuff on ebay.
    That'd be cruel.

I'd swap out the stock speakers, throw an amp on em then add a sub box for the back (not custom fitted) with it's own amp and crossover. Even a bazooka would work fine and could easily be removed later.
    Keep the stock deck.

Listen to them and you decide which are better.

It's no good saying that brand X is better than brand Y. Most of the stuff at your local mass market audio shop is similar in price and sound quality anyway so you'd just have to listen to find a set that you like and go with it.
