CAN Bus Alarm System / Remote Start Interface...

    Ok guys...
Firstly: THIS IS NOT A PRODUCT OF CANHACK.ORG

Now that that's out of the way.. I'll tell ya what I found...

A site called Bypasskit.com has CAN Bus interfaces for Alarm / Remote start systems. I've been talking to a guy that has used one on his Jeep Grand Cherokee, and he says it works pretty well.

The big Plus is that you only tap into a few wires, and you get a LOT of functinality. If you want to read up on the device, it's the XK532 ( 2nd version of the XK530 ). In order for them to work on LX ( or any CAN Bus enabled vehicles it must be ordered with the CHDL7 Firmware flashed to it.. ( just the CAN Bus version of the firmware. ) Also note that the XK530 page linked above has many features listed that are not supported by the CHDL7 Firmware. Please see the list below for supported features. For those interested in the installation manual, check HERE (PDF FILE).

Now.. Aside from making everyone here aware of this product, I'd like to guage interest... Specifically because I can't find a single dealer that sells these things to the consumer. Since this is the case, I've signed on with them as a dealer. I must order at least 2 items each time I order. So... If there's enough interest, I'll talk w/ DMAG about being a Site supporter, and start up a group buy on these things.

They MSRP for $125 each, but I can get them to you guys for:

$75 Shipped for the first 3, if we go 4 or more, I can get them for $68 Shipped.
(Shipping will be USPS Priority mail, most destinations in 2 days, the rest, 3 days.)

Features supported with the CHDL7 Firmware:
    SKREEM Transponder Bypass
    Lock all Doors
    Unlock All Doors
    Unlock Drivers Door 1st
    Arm the Factory Alarm system
    Disarm the Factory Alarm System
    Release the Trunk
    Horn Chirp
Door / Trunk Status ( i.e. trip alarm if opened )
DOES NOT REQUIRE YOU GIVE UP A KEY!
This unit does require that you have both factory keys to program the transponder for the SKREEM activation.

All these functions can be done w/o this box. But it requires tapping into many more wires, with lots of relays, and still having to purchase a transponder bypass module.

Also note: I've not personally used this module yet, I'm only going from what one person has told me, and what the company Tech's have told me. I'm looking to place an initial order soon ( within the next week or so ), but would like to help as many LX'ers as possible when I do...

So, after all this information... Who's interested??

Uh... Well.. I don't think we'll be offering flash updates for this device specifically. We will most certainly do CAN captures to see what signals are on the bus during specific events. But, I don't forsee CANHack.org re-programming the XK532.

    Thanks!

No me gusta their website... is this an alarm or just an interface to simplify installation of an independent alarm?

It's an interface to simplify Alarm and Remote Start installations...

It allows you to pull most of the needed connections from data that goes across the CAN bus, so you tap into one wire, instead of 12.. ( or whatever.. )

Just a note... this will work on the following vehicles:
    2005+ Dodge Dakota
    2004+ Dodge Durango **SEE NOTE
    2005+ LX Vehicles ( Charger, Magnum, 300 )
    2005+ Jeep Grand Cherokee
    2006 Jeep Commander
    2006 Dodge Ram
    2007 Dodge Caliber
    2006 PT Cruiser

**NOTE: Durango's built before May 17 2004 may require a WCM replacement under warranty. The defective WCM units do not allow additional keys to be coded to the vehicle.

Also, If you see something else on their site that you need, please PM me with the Vehicle you have, and the part you are inquiring about. I'm more than happy to let you know the cost, and add it to the order.

Interesting, both are Canadian companies. Must be the cold climate in Ottawa and Quebec, forcing them to do this for aftermarket remote starters.

I'd be in if someone could hack a custom interface for it to send whatever CAN commands you like. It would be cool to program in macros, so one thing would trigger others.

    Ok.. New prices... New product...

The new product was out of stock with no ETA. Seems they got a shipment in today. The features list is EXACTLY the same. The only difference is that you can't flash update the new ( cheaper ) product.

See the first post for all the info!

Also, if you answered 'Hells ya' above, please post in this thread, or PM me. I need to get a good list of takers.. Please also indicate if the new cheaper mod is 'Ok' for you..

I've not seen that this is capable on the CAN bus. I've seen the ability to move the Sunroof, but not the windows.. This doesn't mean it isnt' possible.. but I've not found it yet.

Hmm, not sure about lack of updating.
No eta, so no telling how long..

A little off subject, what is the chance on a keyboard interface with CANbus for programing our address books etc.?.

I can understand wanting the update capability. They have received a shipment of the 'Non-Updatable=>Cheaper' units in. They are now in stock. That's the only reason I updated this thread with the new data.

Not very likely. With the CAN Bus hacking, we are very limited to only being able to reproduce packets of the same nature that already exist on the bus. This is because each device is very intelligent. Each device on the bus has a spcific packet pattern it looks for. If the data isn't in that format, it will discard the packet, or lockup trying to figure the packet out. So, we are really stuck with listening to the bus to gather information for better display, or putting data on the bus in imulation of other devices that already exist for the vehicle.

Really OT, but maybe not. Does the device that transmits a packet, throw an error if something else spoofs it? For example, this interface is spoofing things to make it work. If the transmitting devices don't care when they "hear their own voice" then everything is cool, but if some of them do, would it cause the FCM to accumulate error messages?

I don't have an immediate need for this, but it looks cheap enough that I may leap anyway.

The nodes on the bus only watch for specific CAN id's on the network. Since they would never expect to hear their own voice.. they don't watch for it. Now, if on the other hand, the message you spoof isn't well crafted, the nodes that are watching for your message may trip codes. I'm hoping that they've figured all this out well enough to not do such things. But, even if they do throw a code here and there.. the way the system is setup, it doesn't rack up codes, it just sets, and re-sets the same code. Once I get one installed in HemiGrrls Charger SRT8, I'll hook up and check codes to see what happens.

They have done a few different releases on these devices ( firmware wise ). In order to flash the new firmware to the XK devices you need another USB device which you buy seperately. But, once you buy it, you can flash any of the XK devices, with any firmware that comes out for it. I'll probably pick one of these up in the future, if something is released and I think it may help.

I do know they've fixed a door unlock issue on the Ram trucks ( which employ a different setup instead of the Front Control Module ).
