    Back up camera install Pics!

I just purchased an Accele night vision back up camera and I am undecided on where to mount it? I was wanting to get opinions or even idea's for where is the best place to put it? It is a flush mount camera. I was thinking about mounting it into the back liscense plate right between the letter's and numbers, drilling through the rear bumper, but my only concern is will I get into the actual steel bumper when I do this? Any input or idea's are welcome.

No, the steel is pretty far back. You might have to carve out some foam though. Coolest install I've seen was a camera in place of a trunk lock on a charger (my apologies to whoever had that up at Starved Rock... I suck with names). On the mag, Someone put it where the wiper mount after removing the rear wiper, that looked OK... I might even suggest up in the spoiler to give you a better view and cause less "damage" to install.

Ya I know which car your talking about at the starve rock meet, that was pretty slick. I really wanted to do the wiper location, but there is such an angle there that I don't think that it would be easy to do. As for the spoiler thats cool as well, but the camera that I have is to big for up there and I don't think that the view would be very good. The bumper location is nice, but was just worried about something in the way. But since you're saying that it's styrofoam right behind the plastic then this might be doable.

I'm even considering installing it in the front bumper just because it would be a neat view and i'm usually more worried about hitting curbs or low driveways then backing into something. All idea's i'm messing with. Keep the idea's coming though. But who wants to give a good idea, when you wanna be the first to do it.

I ended up poping a hole through just to the left of the license plate in the rear. Unless you were looking for it, most people didn't even realize it was there. ( This was on a Silver Magnum RT )... I need to see if we have any pics w/ that installed.. We traded the Magnum in on a charger, so no chance in getting pix.

    **Edit:
    Heh.. Found one..

Pop a hole in your lens for the 3rd brakelight in your spoiler. It's easy to get to, out of the way, and would be slick!

I would like to install it in the 3rd brake light, but my camera's way to big for that one, since it has nite vision it's 1 3/8" wide.

I have a spare 3rd brakelight on my desk. there is only about 3/4" from the edge of the lens to the circuit board the LEDs are mounted on. And there is only 3/4" clear space between the LEDs. most camera's are too small to fit in that area.

As for mounting the night vision cam inside, you'd probably see nothing in the image at night but a screen full of green..

When I looked into a monitor of a night vision camera at a bike show...we looked at the women with dark sunglasses on and you can tell what color their eyes were and the color makeup BEHIND the dark tinted glasses.
That's why I feel the dark tint on the back window is of no concern.

most n/v cams used for backup purposes have infrared LED's around the camera lens. If you mount that behind the glass, all the camera will pick up is the reflection of that, nothing discernable on the outside.

I might try and test this here this week, if I get a chance. I'll just run the power and ground off my distribution block for my stereo system and steal the video cable connection spot for the xbox and hook up the camera. Get in the rear hatch in the dark and try it out. If it works or if it don't work, then we will know for sure.
