Anyone ever fixed a "Disc Error"?

I am getting the dreaded "DISC ERROR" on the CD changer of my NAV system (not the NAV DVD, just on the CD changer). Has anyone ever been able to fix this condition without spending hundreds of dollars to ship it off somewhere? I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and disconnecting and connecting the connections on the back of the unit. Any other suggestions? This is very frustrating.

One of the semi-known issues is overheating with some of the earlier REC models.. IIRC that it seemed to happen more in the winter when the heat was running behind the head unit.

Is it every disc? Only when the car has been running?

Is your 2006 still under warranty?

It's a unit that I just bought and installed. I haven't been able to load any discs yet. When I hit the LOAD button plus one of the numbers, it sounds like it cycles through 3 or 4 trays but then stops and the screen says "DISC ERROR". It won't let me insert any discs into the changer.

if you just bought it used and had it shipped to you, the changer mechanism may be damaged. there is a special shipping braket that needs to be installed for shipping. did yours have this when you got it? if not, you may have just bought a brick.

I wouldn't go that far. The NAV feature works great and the radio still works too. I found this place http://www.videoservicestop.com/gps/index.htm that claims they can fix it, although I haven't figured out a price yet.

Does this bracket you refer to have a part number so people can order one or does it only come with new in-the-box units from the manufacturer?

that's the only place i've ever seen them. although, i installed one today (brand new, not refurbished) and it did not have this braket or even the slots to insert it. maybe they changed the design so that it's not required anymore???
i'd check with Mr. iNCREDIBLE. he's had many of these apart and may be able to help.

    good luck
