    136.6db Avg with a 137.8 Peak @ soundoff

Local stereo shop had a USACI sanctioned sound off this afternoon. Streetbeat 1 class. I need to learn to read rules, MUSIC to be played not tones. I had to scramble through my cd/DVDs to find something. It reading is an average during a 30sec run. Bassically need music with bass through the whole passage. I found 1 track. Was 3rd til a last minute entry took first. Thats my only complaint about this. He knew he could hit 139+ and waited to see what everyone else did before plopping down the $20 to compete. They need to stick with the original plan of Registration from 9-11, guess they are just money grubbers and wanted the 10 or so people who showed up and hour before the end and jump in. Oh well, the numbers were

    1)139.1
    2)138.8
    3)138.6
    4)136.6
    5)131.2

Not bad for 16.6db over the 120db threshold of pain. (Every 3db requires X2 power, every 10db is audible X2)

103 dB Jet flyover at 100 feet
    105 dB Snowmobile
110 dB Jackhammer, power saw, symphony orchestra
    120 dB Thunderclap, discotheque/boom box
    110-125 dB Stereo
    110-140 dB Rock concerts
130 dB Jet takeoff, shotgun firing
    145 dB Boom cars

Not sure if I am going to find some better music or just hang it up here. They used a ProTerm meter in a lil cage thingy and placed at the passenger foot area.

Cool. My brother has a handheld db reader which has 126 db max on it, which im not sure how accurate it is +- a few maybe, but i can hit 126 db on the reader easily withe it on the center console facing towards the front of the car with my two JL 12W3v2's powered by a JL e1800 Amp in a sealed box. Would be cool to see what db's i can reach with them.

I jsut need to step up to the TREO 12"SSx and the alpine M1005 haahh, that would put me in the 138 range easy. BUt i have gotten bored with it all lately. Seriously thinking of taking the sub out and run around town with just the 75X4 and the dash speakers.

HOLY ****in **** colossus3200. What the HELL kind of set up is that? I love it, I only got a 10" square Kicker w/ a RF amp. It was hooked up by my local audio place. But my main concern was hiding everything. You can look in my back end and not see a single thing, unless you know what the back end is supposed to look like. Once again, HOLY ****in ****!

Ok... not trying to be a chanker on the on the willy of joy here, but doesnt the ability of the human ear to hear details in music rapid fall off at 110-120dB? Thusly making what you hear to be just so much noise?
I am not really familar with hyper powered audio systems but if maximum loundness is the goal then why not use a compressed air horn type device?

Also are there any awards for purity, detail, and clarity of sound?

    And the dead shall walk

because in most comps. you have to be below 80Hz----and yes there are awrds for SQ(sound quality)----that is what I built my car for----headroom is a great thing in my books since music is do dynamic---5 speakers and alittle over 3500 watts RMS of pure SQ bliss!

Finally figured out why it didnt hit as hard as I thought it could. Friggin ALPINE and they way they do the input gain. Its all electronic, the numbers are from .1 to 8.0 (if i rememeber right) .1 is screaming while 8.0 is low. I normally keep it at 2.0 but decided to give a lil more umph and go to 4.0 or so I thought. I put it back to 2.0 and BIG diff, put it on 1.) and man BIG BIG dif. I will have to wait til May 21st now to see what the changes will do. Now just need to find a song with constant bass, thinking of Mariah Carey's Breakdown. Need something with slow, constant bass for 30 sec.
