Did it here too - two different pc's and a plethora of browsers (browsi?)

I gave up and minimized this one (chrome) and later I opened it up and magically I'm in. WTF?

I'm not all that distressed though, I'm thinking that this is just another symptom of the lowering of standards that seems rampant these days. I always thought that computers/networks/software was supposed to work the first time, every time, or else it was broken. Apparently that's gone down the tubes just like corporate responsibility.

These days it seems there are numerous examples at work where you have to try three times (repeatable too!) in order to get an application to talk to you. I persisted one day and walked a symptom as far up the hill as I could get and ended up with a 'That's just the way it works' answer.

    Oh well...

I log in and it says thanks for logging in but it takes me back to the screen where you can log it.

BUT I can click on the LX banner at the top of the page and it goes to me being logged in

Been that way for 2 months now, no problems with mobile though.

You do need to clear any cookies for lxforums.com and www.lxforums.com

You can do them individually if you want, instead of clearing all cookies. In Windows XP, it's c:\Documents and Settings\User\Cookies

find anything that's user@lxforums.com or user@www.lxforums.com and delete those.

User in this case is the name of the Windows User - not your lxforums user name.

Hope that helps, but if it's easier to just clear all cookies, you can do that with less effort from within your browser itself.

I've been fighting the same issue for quite some time and so far have not been able to find a solution. For me it's not only this forum but several other forums as well (but not all forums).

It all started when I upgraded from IE6 to IE8. It has something to do with IE8 (or perhaps starting with IE7 based on what others with the problem have stated).

Clearing cookies, cache, and all of the other endless "tips" that I have run across has not solved the issue. There are a lot of people on the net having the same problem. Sometimes the log in will be remembered for a day or two, sometimes only for a few minutes, sometimes for a few hours.

I thought that since it was happening on selected forums that it might have to do with all the advertising that some forums have added.

I got so tired of having to constantly re-login that I simply uninstalled IE8 which reverted me back to IE6. Viola! Solved, no more log-in issues. At work I have left my computer on IE8 for additional testing, sure enough still have the problem there.

I am running IE8 no problems here.
What security settings are your running and are you running AV software?
I don't use any AV software I am my own virus detector.
My settings are set to Med-high try resetting to the default setting.

Also, you may have to login to both http://lxforums.com and http://www.lxforums.com

That should clear any issues up.

I have tried it all, countless hours spent, changed every possible setting. 10+ years on forums with all kinds of different computers and software configs, never an issue until I upgraded to IE8. A Google search will find tons of people with same problem and no solution found so far.

I'm using IE8, and have been for a while with no issues. The only time it logs me out is if I kick my powerstrip under my desk and I restart my computer...

I didn't want to clear all my cookies so I wouldn't lose all my banking card numbers etc., but with Windows Vista the Cookies folder is not accessable through Window Explorer.

You have to do it by going into Internet Options either through the Control Panel or IE's Tools menu and selectively delete cookies that way. On the General tab look for Browsing History, click on Settings and click on View Files. Cookies are amongst other files in there.

That's the only way I was able to get back in and I didn't have to close & reopen my browser BTW.
