On Wednesday, June 20th, 300 Dodge dealers took delivery of their first Dodge Dart and drove it back to their dealerships. This little car is of vital importance to Chrysler LLC as it is the first true collaboration of CHrysler and FIAT. It also makes them a legit player in one of the largest volume vehicle segments in the market. Trust me this car ain't your father's Caliber. I'm hoping to take a test drive soon and write up a review.

Instead of having a hydraulic pump drawing power from the motor (giving you less to the wheels), a steering rack with a hydraulic ram under the car to assist in turning the wheels, and multiple lines running around with a cooler built in to the condenser.... (sound complicated yet) there's a cute little electric motor under the dash on the steering column that assists in turning the wheel.

as it pertains to the Dart, rack and pinion steering gear actually has 2 pinions. one is connected to the steering shaft/column and provides a mechanical link between the steering wheel and the rack. the other is part of the power assist electric motor, which is mounted to the rack. no hydraulics involved. only the assist part is "by wire".
Took a couple of pics of one in Vegas, not a bad looking car, carbon fiber hood looked good, interior was dressed up a bit as well. Couldn't get a good look at it as it was roped off.

To be honest, I'm not really likin' these from the pics I've seen so far - I really want to see one in person before I pass judgement. Sounds like that could be soon...![]()

Read a couple of magazine articles, maybe Car & Driver/Road & Track, both were impressed with the car.
It's refreshing to read road testers give credit to American auto builders for a change, even if the Dart is an Alfa under the skin... and especially nice to read the rave reviews of the new 300 and Charger SRTs, particularly when it comes from people who virtually worship the ground a BMW rolls upon.

Can't wait to test drive one... I need something that will run around town cheaper.. The Charger and Ram really drink too much gas for short hops..
