nah...
Great job monkey! Keep 'em coming.
I say chop the top 3", shave the handles drop the suspension, shrink the mirrors, double up the foglights, recess the headlights a tad, put in Charger side scoops and a Charger fliptop gas cap make the rear look a little thicker or wider ...thennnn we would be talking turkey!

I'll bet it was. You did a great job reproducing the windows and back head rests.Originally Posted by monkey
The great thing about a plastic front ends is that someone's probably gonna make one like that.

put the doors on the second picture on the first picture
Yeah... I don't know why people have a fascination of chopping the retro front on the modern Charger body, because it's definitely not working. Sorry for sounding harsh, it's just way to much a clash of design themes.

Using an actual front off of an old charger is way easier than modeling up some actual retro design ideas for the front in solidworks, 3D studio, form Z, or Maya, I dont have that kind of time right now. It is a quick way to share what I feel a new car with the name charger should be. The changes made in this chop were spawned by a lengthy charger discussion at work. Heres the jist of it: when a car company releases a car from its past, to be "retro", it should be modern and hot by todays standards (materials and technology), but tip its hat and visually be a decendant of its forefather for which it shares a name. I think ford did this well when they introduced the new T-bird. Although a retro reference to a car built before my time, anyone who has seen a 57 T-bird could look at a Ford lot and pick out which was the new T-bird. When the Tbird was released, I saw a show discussing the ideation behind designing the car. It stated that when the designers working on the project got mental blocks and couldn't produce ideas(believe me this happens a lot in the creative field), they were told to "wax the car". They had 2 or 3 original Tbirds in the studio which the designers could go rub down with cloths to feel the body lines and reconnect with the car.
Do I like the looks of the new charger? Yes, its a kick a$$ car on a kick a$$ LX platform...but, I feel DC marketing is tagging on the charger name to try to win popularity points. Much like the over use HEMI name. thats my only beef with it. If they were truly trying to introduce a retro charger, it probably wouldnt be a 4 door sedan, and there is no way the design team should overlook incorporating a modern salute to the hidden headlight/blank grill of the old charger. It is that car's defining feature!
Anyone understand what I'm saying, or am I just talkin to the wall...again
No no.. VERY good points. I took a really long look at some of my Charger models from the 60's and yes, you are right. The most defining elements of the Charger is foremost the open grille, then the back windshield, and then the muscular haunchlike rear quaterpanels. It would seem that the designers would have tried harder to more prominantly incorporate this into the new Charger. After a pause to get more coffee, it ocurred to me that the Mustang went too far in this aspect. It looks TOO retro. I concede over the point that it seems the designers stopped to early or didn't really set their heads on this. I was saying earlier today to a friend of mine that DCX made a mistake in naming it the Charger. This name has way way too much psychological weight in its name for everyone besides just the MoPar devotees. They could have named it some thing else, really. It is not good to mess with people's heroes or their dreams. The name Charger on this car seems to do just that.
