What's a good, cheap, manual trans car?

Embarrassed to say that I do not know how to drive manual.

I wanna pick up a cheap beater to learn how to drive that sucker, preferably a Chrysler/Dodge or a GM because I like them best.

Anything will do really, and it just needs to survive long enough for me to get a good amount of seat time.

    What can y'all suggest?

Just go get a Honda Civic. You can pick one up in decent driver shape for less than $5k and then sell it in 6 months for exactly what you paid for it.

A Jeep Wrangler is always fun.
I had a '95 with the 5 spd, and it was great.
    I kinda miss it now.
It was great to drive it around without the top in the nice weather.
They have been around for quite a while and I beat it, but it was tough, never failed me.

When I came to the US, I didn't know how to drive an automatic.... got my license in DK driving a stick - still miss it.

Yeah a 4-banger would be a good practice car. Civic, Sentra, Corolla... little to no power so you can wind it up and still not go too fast/out of control

A love it or hate it car, but a PT Cruiser? Same as Neon and the 2.4 litre motor is bulletproof.

Why not rent a cheapo for the weekend? Two days is plenty of time to get the basics down.

First vehicle I learned how to drive a stick on was a 6cyl Wrangler. On the flat they're pretty forgiving and you can let the clutch out without giving it gas in first gear. Lets you learn the friction point really nice. God I miss that thing.

Never really considered a jeep. The more i think about it the more i like it.

You can get a Cherokee for less than 2k. It'll be in bad shape body wise, but drivelyne is usually solid!
    TJs are a bit more.

Who knows there may even be a jeep guy hiding inside me

I lease a 2006 TJ stickshift and my wife learned to drive it in a weekend while I was at work. Six months later Chrysler offered us employees GREAT deals on avengers and calibers ($49/month) but she wouldn't let me swap it up...she LOVES HER Jeep.
Wanna take over the lease? Only about 9 months left on it as now I have to buy her a Jeep stickshift.
    Get the Jeep.
Or better yet, get some one with a SRT8 Challenger, I trained a student at work in our plant SRT8 and it only took her about 3 hours to master it. That car has the sweetest shift/clutch.
