    Vegas Vacation

I just spent close to a week in Las Vegas and felt I should post some of my oberservations both pros and cons.

I arrived on the 1st of July and pre-rented a car at Dollar and was told that I would get a Magnum but when I arrived I was given the choice of a brand new Jeep Liberty which I took. It proved to be a good choice.

Las Vegas must be the LX capital of the world as it seems that all you see are Magnums, 300's and Chargers in the rental fleet. I only saw a few 300C's and a few Chargers with hemis which I presumed were privately owned. I was not really impressed that DC would flood the rental market, but I guess it's a money thing.

I presume that when the Challenger hits the market place that it will not be put in the rental fleet due to two doors and the hemi. I can only hope.

I have not been to Vegas since Jan. 2002 and was surprised at how this city is growing. It must hold some sort of a record for growth.

Vegas used to be a fairly reasonable priced vacation where deals could be found for food, entertainment etc.,but boy have things changed for the worse. This town is bloody expensive!!!!

I am a member of Costco here in Canada and went there on the first morning to buy a flat of water and was amazed that a lot of product is the same price as to what we pay here in Canada and that is not taking the difference in our dollar which is about 10-15 percent right now, it appears that you folks in the US are getting ripped off big time.

I walked through the new Wynn Hotel and this place is and will be huge when it is fully completed and is really a work of art. There is a Lamborghini dealership in the lobby but they wanted 10 bucks to get in and as I am a cheap SOB, I refuse to pay to see any car especially one that I have a hard time saying the name, plus I can't even afford the door handle on one.

On July 4th. the police were doing routine stops on the strip and I guess some guy came through and was told to turn down his car stereo but he ignored them and kept driving through, so one police officer grabbed onto the car and his partner shot the guy DEAD!!! I guess it doesn't pay to mess with the Vegas police.

    Sorry for the long post.

Wow a week in Vegas, you deserve a medal or something. I go to Vegas on business about 6 times a year and can't wait to leave. Your right it's not the economical spot it used to be. Growth in that town is staggering but mostly due to hotels which aren't high paying jobs so there is alot of "urban sprawl". Traffic gridlock is 2nd only to LA. One note the best deals are to go not during a holiday and only Mon-Thurs. If you go "off strip" you can still get the .99 shrimp cocktail, just don't try to steal one or the police will arrest you.

I guess we can but I gave that vice up 20 years ago, so will stick to diet coke and plain old water, but if you are ever up this way, I am not that cheap and will buy you a pint or two!!!

One thing I forgot to say is that I was not very impressed with pre-board screeing at the Vegas airport. I think those folks could take a few lessons in public relations. They were complete A-holes and I had to bite my tonque or I might have been barred as my name is already on the no fly list, even though I am a retired police officer and also worked here in Calgary at the airport for a couple of years and am completly security cleared up to secret. I guess there is some jerk somewhere with the same name as mine and very close to the same birthdate.

They made me take off my shoes(not that, that was a problem) but one never made it through the x-ray machine and was found on the floor prior to the machine and the other one was on the floor after the machine with those A-holes walking on it and kicking it out of the way.

I tell you- I hate flying- but have to occasionally. I recently flew home from Japan, and I tell you- the Japanese know how to run an airport. They are super polite, extremely efficient, and you get to smoke at the gates! They certainly could share some pointers with US airports.

Little off subject, but I haven't had to fly since 01/98. It was when I was out-processing from 20 years in the Navy. I flew from Sigonella, Sicily (Italy) to Norfolk, VA, to DFW, TX, to Corpus Christi, TX where I spent a week doing nothing.
