sad day in the 12 volt world

SPEAKING with a higher up in CES yesterday.

SINCE most major big chain stores have gone under world wide this has destroyed many mobile electronic makers and cut them to the core on top of slow sales due to new cars coming outfited with quality sound system/navi/remote starts/blue tooth so the after market is shrinking quickly.

so this bring us to this.
BEST BUY will no longer sell 12 volt product after this year so run to their stores for unbeatable christmas deals

this will destroy whats left of DEI in the south east area.

DEI-is on the verge of banruptcy [ala viper/clifford]
and since they poo pooed the mom and pop stores years ago and wine'd and dine'd the chain stores they are now SO SCREWED!

PIONEER IS loosing money and has shut down the premier line [its gone]
pioneer wants to shut down the 12 volt products or file bankruptcy to get rid of the 12 volt side and focus on home medical products
KENWOOD wants the same thing -out of car audio due to lack of sales
sony has wanted out of car audio since spring of 08 but they have to find a way to pay out their share holders on the 12 volt side first then they are gone also. they were to shut down the 12 volt lines in fall of 07 but the share holders held it up till now-so its back on the table [talks] to scrap that divison.
this just leaves brands mart as the only chain store that will sale car audio in the eastern sea board of the US and this will help the mom and pop shops. [MORE BUISNESS] BRANDS MART will only carry basic entry level car audio-good for me BUT if theres no pioneer/kenwood/sony that leaves only clarion/jenson/jvc and blaupunkt-and kki who makes $25 RADIOS for Dual and the flee markets.

this isnt a haha-DEI and pioneer are both one pen stroke way from bankruptcy.
dei i can see with their forgetting the little shops for kissing the chain stores on the back of the neck and reach arounds at meetings.
    BUT pioneer?
FYI incase no one noticed -panasonic has been gone from car audio since 07 and only sell phones/tv's and medical machines and parts [they build MRI's and cat scaners]
pioneer wants to focus on tv's-cell phones and medical

JVC was tossing around the idea of pulling out of 12 volt for the past 6 years but now they are redoing their entire line up of 12 volt plus they were the first out with built in HD radios 2 years ago.
IT'S up in the air if PIONEER will even have a display at CES this year.
I heard sony wont be there-so we will see.
it will all come to light after the CES show.

It think it also has a lot to do with "modern" cars having such wild dash structures, built in features to the radio system that doing a swap is either esthetically unpleasing finish or it's just not possible with the extra control display system.

Companies that want to keep in this field should get in bed with the OEM and build factory systems that sound really good or have easy upgrade paths for additional speakers amps subs etc.

But then again who will pay the extra $3000 - 4000 to get a great sounding audio system in a car that they are only keeping for a few years and cost less than 20K.

I've been a audiophile for years had cars sponsored by most of the major players but can't be bothered anymore. I don't want to attract the attention or loose the space to be bothered with a big system.

What are the must haves for our cars, incase the deals are too good to pass. Also you know where I'm going to have them installed, I'm always happy to spend my money at good local small businesses.

THATS WERE SHOPS LIKE MINE STEP IN and then we can sell products again for a few bucks under MSRP in stead of loosing $10-$30 on a radio to keep up with the chain stores.
CUSTOMERS dont realize that on a $100 radio sale theres only a $18-$28 profit to keep up with chain stores-and with them gone we will make around $40 again

I thought DEI was a CALI based corparation-their not.
they are a florida based corp and were in chapter 11 in 2001 and some thing went on in 2005 with them in the courts
their new name is DEI holding and are on the brink of bankruptcy

That sucks. I like their alarms. Have a Viper 5901 in the Magnum and a Pythoin 991 to put in my Jeep Wrangler. Thinking I might buy a couple spare remotes...

Doesn't matter where the corporation is registered, except for legal and tax purposes.

Seems you have a major axe to grind with DEI and the others....just an observation.

DEI is based in Vista, CA

Also incase you didn't know this...

Clarion WILL NOT be at CES this upcoming year... Hitachi doesn't want to pay for the booth space...

Also Clarion is doing very well in OEM... they make stuff for Ford, VW, Lambo (like a few hundred pieces LOL) and others...
    Thank you Bigal470
