pretty awesome night.
The New Riders of the Purple Sage took the stage at about 9pm. If you have ver gone to a Grateful Dead show, you prolly have a mental image of these dudes. If not, picture Dyer Straights mixed with Asleep at the Wheel and add 20 years.
With me?
cool.
old dudes rocked. Mixing country with classic rock with a funky dead trippy vibe, I was entertained with a grin. I love watching people loving what they do. Watching people older than me do it really makes me warm.
These cats took a break at about 10:30. I mosied to their bus outside and found em chillin on the sidewalk sharing tales and such. I pulled up a curb and spent the next 20 minutes laughing, learning, sharing and receiving with old hippes that looked both grateful and dead. The lead singer (man, I totally cant remember his name) told me of his life, his grand children, being Jerry Garcia's best friend and how it now costs a grand to fill up the tour bus.
The next set was sweeeeeet. Now, a familiar glow in their eyes, these dudes wailed out what had to be their hits because the 3 groupies that were there were goin monkeykaka.
Dude would sometimes throw me a grin like this lyric was for me and the people around me would act like they thought it was too.
It was faaaar out.
The New Riders of the Purple Sage.
i'm a new fan.
