It just breaks my heart when one of my forum family members has a tragedy to deal with. And as you all know, our family works at its finest when we are helping our own loved ones.
On that note....I am making a suggestion. I have felt compelled to do something to honor Lillian and Patrick, and help others that deal with the tragedy of a stroke. I know Linda (HEMEE) mentioned that we could donate to the charity of our choice. I would like to suggest that anyone that would like to make a charity donation on Lillian's behalf do so to the American Stroke Association. This can be done individually and privately, rather than as an entire forum.
The American Stroke Association website for donations is:
https://donate.americanheart.org/eco.../asa_index.jsp
May Patrick find strength at this difficult time, and may Lillian rest in peace. I know all of us keep this family in our thoughts.
Love,
Sue

Donation sent. Thanks Sue.
Nice Sue thanks for the suggestion.
Great idea Sue,
Here's the link for the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation donation page, for those of us up here. Both associations do the same kind of work helping stroke victims, and they really do help save lives.

Token,
Thanks so much for putting that website up. I was not thinking, and was rather thoughtless, in recommending an American association when Pat and Lillian are Canadians. Sorry to my northern friends and to the NR family. However, you are correct, those associations work very closely together in the fight against stroke and heart disease.
Thanks to everyone who donates...that is one step closer!
Sue
thanks for the links. should make donating relatively painless.
Hi Gang,
Just a note about the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation restrictions...
I also wanted to make a donation to a Canadian organization, but when I attempted to do so with the above yesterday, I realized that it cannot be made in memory of someone without providing specific personal information, full name, address, etc., of the recipient of the memorial card. I have asked Northern Rider if he has a P.O. Box for his business (to protect his privacy) that I may release to the forums and I will post any updates in this regard.
On NR's behalf, I'd like to say 'thank you' for the generous outpouring of love and support you have all shown, it is hugely inspirational.
Not thoughtless at all Sue, in fact I think it was an excellent idea. Our online family here spans many borders and I can see by the posts that Pat and Lillian have touched many lives in many places.Originally Posted by HEMIwoman

HEMEE, if that information becomes available please share with the rest of us. We can still make donations and know in our hearts that they are in memory of one of our own.
I work with stroke victims every day....it can be very devastating, but I also see many success stories that make it all worthwhile...let's hope we can increase the number of successful rehabs in Lillian's memory.

Thanks Token.
Sorry for the delay all!
FYI, for those that went ahead and made a non-memorial donation, there is an area on the memorial service website where you can list your donation details if you wish.
Special thanks to you, HEMIwoman, for your caring and support...
Lillian's Memorial Info:
For those that have asked me, following is a link with details about Lillian's memorial service.
This website allows you to write a message of condolence, inform of a donation you have made in her memory, or order flowers.
* Note: What I did, and suggest for anyone that chooses to use the site, is list my forum username as my last name so Pat will know who it came from.
Charity Donation Info:
For those that wish to donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, like me, you no doubt found the site would not let you proceed with a memorial donation w/o a full name and address for a memorial card. I now have Patrick's permission to post this info tied to his business address:
Lillian Irwin
555 Cambridge Street South
c/o Windsor Home Cleaning
Ottawa, On

Thanks for the additional information Lillian, it is greatly appreciated. I know Pat is very lucky to have your friendship.
I just tried to donate, and it won't let my CC transaction go through because I cannot indicate what "province" I am in, even though I am in the United States...can someone please PM me how to donate to this fine organization as a US citizen?
Thanks much!

where it asks for your province, select "other".Originally Posted by HEMIwoman
