Question Maggie did something odd this morning.

I know the map lights stay on for a minute or so after you start the car, but today mine stayed on and wouldn't go off. I tried manually clicking them off and on; tried the dimmer switch...no go. I drove over to the street to pick up my newspaper and shut the engine off. I figured it might be a glitch in the computer and I was right. When I restarted, they went out as per normal. Any body else experience this?

Now that you mention it; I don't know if it was or not. Maybe I just jumped to a wrong conclusion. Oops.

    Thanks to everybody that responded.

I have not had the light problem, but the computer in the Magnum sure is strange. Every once in a while my drivers side rear window decides it will not roll down. It doesn't work from the drivers control panel or the rear door button. If I turn off the car and restart it everything works fine.

I have also seen weird things with my sunroof control. Sometimes pressing the close button makes it close all the way, and other times it closes, then opens up half way.

My radio sometimes decides to have no sound unless it is turned off then back on.

These cars must use Windows LX, problems fix themselves after a restart.

Sorry to get off topic from the light thing, but my point is that these cars do some pretty strange things.

    power window inop intermittant:
we've replaced a few window regulators (with motors) to fix this problem.
sunroof closes and reopens half way:
it will do this when it senses an obstruction. most likely wind deflector.
    no sound from radio:
    TSB 08-16-04, flash amplifier.

    Question

Does anybody ever have trrouble with the passenger side front door not shutting right (all the way)? At first I thought it was just my 13 YO daughter not pushing hard enough. Then it happened to me a few time and also my two neighbors, plus a few more. Maybe it needs an adjustment?

fnkychkn, if you recall you advised me to get my window regulator and motor replaced due to intermittent window problem on left rear door. I had it done. It still has the problem. And simply stopping the motor and restarting it cures the problem every time. It seems more like a software glitsch than a hardware issue at this point.

of course, when i said that these vehicles were fixed. i was just asuming they were because nobody ever calls back to say that it's fixed. but they almost always call to say that it's not. and none of them called or ever complained about it since. this being an intermittant problem makes it that much harder to diagnose. personally, i have never witnessed this phenomena (L/R window inop) but after running standard diagnostic tests with inconclusive results. i resorted to online database. someone had witnessed this and conclusively diagnosed poor brush contact inside motor. so i took a chance and replaced it. two months later the second one came in with same symptom. again diag results were inconclusive and again i replaced motor. having not heard from either customer, i can only assume that problem is now fixed. sorry it didn't fix yours.

Yes fnkychkn I hear ya. And I'm not in any way suggesting it was bad advice. You were right on and my dealer had the same info, as I posted, even about the back-order on the motors because of the frequency of replacement in all LX's. The problem is, we all don't have folks in the back seat that often so we blindly go about assuming all is well, out of sight - out of mind.

OK. this is pure speculation on my part because I A: don't have a wiring diagram and B: don't know the boot-up sequence for the various sensors and switches in the car. How different are the motors and regulators between the LEFT rear door and the RIGHT rear door? This problem seems to be exclusively a LEFT door problem.

Could the wiring and the sensors the on-board computers use and the software routines the computers use to "discover" all their physical systems on wake-up be contributing to the problem. I'm "guessing" it is possible that the left rear door actuator switch is the "end-of-the-line" and if the computer dedicated to the internal electronics in the cabin is too slow, or doesn't get a response fast enough from the left rear door switch it does not enable it. Thus, we have a computer problem, not a hardware problem in the door.

One more observation and I'll shut up. Was listening to a local talk-show trying to get a traffic report on my way to work on AM Radio. Sitting at a traffic light and decided to try the left rear window. The window did NOT go down, but because I was just shy of an underpass so the AM station was a little staticy I could clearly hear a change in the static pattern on the radio when I actuated both the front driver's door switch and also when I reached back and tried the rear door switch. This means there WAS definitely power being transferred by the switch because I could hear it in the change in the static of the radio.

Well, that takes me back to square one. Maye the BAD left rear door motors are still floating around out there and they just substituted one bad one for another. Hell, I'm under warranty for a long time. I'm just gonna go get another one.

good possibility that the new one they installed was picked from old stock.
not sure why or even if it's only the L/R that is affected

didn't even realize i was hijacking your thread. sorry about that. my bad.
if door closes over flush or binds on the striker, you might need to adjust striker. if it doesn't bind and closes flush, it might be because it's the last door to close and all windows are up creating an temporary airlock. try opening and closing all doors, one at a time with windows closed to see if it's only R/F that has trouble closing.

    Exclamation

OK, thanks, but brain may not be fully engaged due to Miller Lite and the late hour. Check what time it is when I posted this.

I know new cars have a tight seal, it just seems to be this one door acting up. I just wondered if it was just me or if other people were having the same issue.

    Thanks for your input.
