Man am I glad I married a woman who absolutely detests Valentine's Day.

Now, this isn't to say I don't love flowers. I do, but I don't want them just because someone once decided that February needed a reason for people to buy crap. I want them randomly, some day when TehKing sees them and thinks - of his own volition - "Hey, bet she'd love those."

All that aside, Jokersmokesem, while the vase is useless once the flowers have gone their inevitable way, at least she'll have it for the next time she decides to put flowers in something pretty.

I do the flower thing and gifts with spontaneous decisions, but I try to make special occasions special and stand out for example Christmas and birthdays anniversaries....... I like to show off i guess and make the recipient feel special and/or better than the others. Does that make sense?

As to making sense, sure it does. I'm not looking down my nose at you because you want to make the day a little special for her. I just meant that personally, I don't like the commercialism of it. If others want to embrace it, more power to them. And, of course, to you. I hope she loves whatever it is you ended up choosing.

Nice to meet you! No never thought you were looking down the nose at me at all. Actually I agree with you. As I have gotten older I kinda hate Christmas and such because of all the commercialism. For example rose prices going up this month because of the 14th. Well it's the price we pay for being Americans I guess. LOL!
Another example are diamonds. Just watched this show about how they hold back all the diamonds and only release a certain amount to keep the prices up. WTF?
