Refinanced the house 2.5 years after buying it. Had a fixed 30 year loan but now we were able to lower the interest rate by more than 1% (down to 3.87% now) on a 20 year loan. My payment goes up $50 per month but I save 7.5 years and over $70,000.00 in interest by doing the re-fi. All the paperwork etc was only $499.

The closing was yesterday.

We're starting the process of refinancing ours. When you say all of the paper work etc was only 499, I'm assuming that is just what you paid out of pocket, but not including the closing costs rolled into the loan?

It was $499 including all closing cost, title search and all the other stuff you need to do. We had to lay out some tax that the former lender will refund to us since we had paid it to them already. The new loan is for the same amount as we owed so nothing was rolled into the new loan. It was a special promotion the new lender had available so we took advantage

I just did it in Feb. 2.99% fixed 5yr with a 12 yr amortization since I'm paying accelerated weekly.
