Just got done with back surgery. Thought I'd share my story...

Well, I've been off the boards pretty much this whole weekend because I hurniated (sp?) a disc in my back. (The disc between the L5 & S1 Vertebrae) It was pushing out so far that It was causing nerve damage and making my whole foot go numb. As well as a horrible pain in my butt and behind my knee.

Basically, my doc told me to get an MRI and then see a neurosurgeon. My appointment was this last friday (the 13th!!!!!) and he basically told me he had never seen a hurniated disc that bad before.

My only option was surgery and his only appointment available for the next 8 weeks was the next day (saturday) and 730 am....

Got to the hospital at 530am... Got into my backless gown, shot up with some IV stuff, then the anestiesia and was out like a light.

Next thing I know I'm in a bed with a morphine drip feeling like a million bucks. All the nurses and doctors were great and I had a great experience for my first hospital/surgury visit. I had to stay overnight so they could let the incision drain. The food was good though, so that made it ok.

I was back up and walking around saturday night and sunday morning, and now I am home.

I'm still a little hopped up on the pain killers, so hopefully this post makes sense...

Anyways, just thought I'd share my crazy weekend with y'all!

I went through the exact same thing some years back. Once your on your feet, take care of your back. Do some regular excersices and build up your strength. Take it easy on yourself and get well soon!

I had an inflamed disc 5 years ago from weight lifting. First injury from weight lifting 16 years. That hurt and I could only imagine how painful yours was.

Glad everything worked out. Get well soon!

Definitely get an order for physical therapy to have them teach you how to exercise your back and keep it strong and in alignment after the surgeon clears you!!! Follow doctor's orders and get well!!!

Best of luck on your recovery. After seeing my husband go through 2 surgeries for his back, I know how hard it must be. He was at Swedish and the doctors are great. Hope you get through it swiftly.
