Ike is Affecting Prices at the Pump

Yesterday a station near me was selling regular for $3.699/Gal.
This morning regular was raised to $3.999/Gal.

One station is asking customers to limit purchases to 10 gallon maximum.

News showed a station in Sumpter, SC selling regular for over $5.00/Gal.

    Good ole supply & demand...

Problem is they demand too much for gas sitting in their tanks...

I still don't quite understand why they raise the rates without even getting more gas! I would think they would charge more after having to buy at a higher rate.

Then, when gas becomes cheaper, they never reduce it as quickly as they raise it... like they have to pay for the gas in the tank that they started charging more for when they didn't pay as much in the first place. Ok, I'm a little loopy but if you read that 100 times I'm sure it will make sense

People hear "rumors" that gas is supposed to be going up for [insert reason - hurricane, war, etc], so they rush to gas stations and fill up all of their vehicles, creating a spike in demand, which drives prices up more than they should. It's a self fulfilling prophecy.

Gas actually dropped 3 cents at my usual gas station. But then again, I'm in Cali.

they say the price increase is because they have to close the Texas pipeline when hurricane hits, that means the fuel trucks cant get the fuel and deliver it to us...last I heard is Ike is a tropical storm and the pipeline is opening back up...dont quote me on this just what I heard....Rick

Same story here on the NC Coast. I went to fill up (I had a 1/2 tank) and Reg 87 was 3.99 and 89 was 4.11 . They had the 87 pump wrapped up like they were out (not) , I looked at the price of the gas and drove away. I have enought to get me through till they decide how to rape us again. They wont even give us a reach around. Damn oil companies.

Friday is my normal day to fill-up and normally there are 1 or 2 cars doing the same.

Today there were about 30 cars waiting in line and prices were up about 15 ¢ for every grade.

    Edit:
Daughter just called from Tallahassee asking about gas prices here in Jax. She went to fill up today and regular is $5.50 a gallon everywhere.

    Only a Cat 2.

The winds may be Cat 2, but this thing is HUGE and will bring sustained hurricane winds for a good 10 hours and a storm surge like you'd get from a Cat 4 or 5. All right up the gullet of at least 20% of domestic refining capacity.
