    Ford flex = junk

I drove a ford flex today. My wife had to rent a car so we rented the one that most resemble the station wagon like my magnum and what a huge, gigantic, and hideous piece of crap.
it looks nice from the outside but once you get on the road with it it's a different story altogether. The ride suspension is absolute trash the interior is governed by a supercomputer which limits top speed limits volume control limits Almost everything you can imagine
And this isn't even the base model this is the SEL rearwheel drive F150 chassis as far as I can tell and just about every doodad and gadget on the inside including satellite radio which is nice
Although when you hear a song that you like them on the satellite radio and you have the windows down you have to roll them back up because the volume is limited in this particular model by the rental company to a level that's almost in-audible
As far as power goes it is severely lacking.
after a one and a half hour drive on the freeway I feel road rattled and tired.
As far as I can tell on the inside it's pretty nice and very similar to the station wagon has seven seats eight seats and the rear seats fold down for extra luggage space in the trunk you can fold all the seats down for extra space in the entire cabin giving enough room to put a ladder 2x4s or whatever else you want to carry but it's not a truck by any means.

What's funny is that when I returned it the man asked me how I liked it so I told them all these things honestly, but then concluded that it looked nice.
Now I know and knowing is half the battle G I Joe

please forgive the punctuation in this review because I'm using a dictation software for my iPhone as I'm driving not bad huh?

    Rectum? Damn near killed 'em!

The Flex is built on Ford's D4 platform, which is not the F150.

In my experience, rental car companies do not limit the use of features in the vehicle. If that is really happening, it was probably set by a previous renter as a gag.

The family across the street bought a used one, fully loaded with 20K miles on it last Spring. Last time I talked to them, they had close to 60K on it and not one complaint and no mechanical issues. She drives it and he has to beg for or steal the keys if he wants to drive it. He couldn't get her to test drive it, but once she was behind the wheel, she had to have it...

I have the top model with twin turbos. 14.4 at 100mph stock. so power is not lacking. The stereo and top speed can be turned off in the settings if you are using the same key that made the settings. I have never had an issue with ride quality or road noise, maybe I am more tolerant than you. 50,000 miles on it now had to do brakes, alignment and and injector went bad. I love the crap out of the sync stero. I feel so-so about reliability and fords thought of standing behind the car. I don't regret buying the car. But this is just another opinion, you know what they say opinions are like butts, everyone has one.
    My Mods:

Yeah maybe since this was a rental, someone had already jumped it... Thats what we do with rentals- we abuse them. However this particular car/truck thing was literally a pain in the butt.
I am glad that you guys have found me some redeeming qualities of this vehicle. Like I said I have always admired the look of the thing. Unfortunately, after that rental experiance my desire to have one has been tarnished.

Interesting review. I have yet to even get close to one, but I know I want one to replace our Windstar mini-van. The ONLY model I'd get would be the twin turbo, with seating for 6 - not 7 or 8. I love the idea of 6 captains chairs. (Pacifica had that option, right?)

I guess I really should go test drive one sometime, but just not in the cards for now. Hope to get a 2 year old one in a couple years.

Thanks for clarififying that. I just guessed by eyeballing it. I mentioned it several times to several people and they just went along with me.
Is the D4 platform as durable as the f150 chassis?

Test drive yes. Make sure you like the ride... maybe rent a new one that hasnt been tampered with and take it on a road trip for a few days. If you like it then buy the super hot rod version.

As much as I'd love to be on board with ya, our Windstar is a 2001, with 10X,XXX miles.

One transmission, and a set of shocks and brakes.

I'm guessing there might be a couple folks here that can say that about their Mopars.

Still fun to tease the Blue ovals and Bow-ties.. every once in a while they have to have at least one car that lasts past the Dealership curb..

he he, ya, I hear ya. I'm personally not overly loyal to any make. I love VW's, LOVE my Mag. But VW's have their issues, as well as every other car out there.
