    ebay scam foiled!

A friend of mine at work received the email below. He clicked on the link, and it went to
a url that wasn't ebay. The email text looked like an ebay addy, but it was linked to a scam artist's site. The return email looked official, but it came from elsewhere.

It did look official, but he got suspicious..... It asked for credit card info, a social security number, messenger passwords, ebay passwords, bank routing & account numbers, etc... any personal type info you can think of, it asked for.

He made up a username and password and it went straight thru--- obviously a scam.

So I dug into it a little more and we notified ebay about the scam. I also found out the webhost & their phone number. So the VP of the company loooked at it and killed this a-hole's account and site. The site didn't even have an index page, just the scam page that was behind folders with the names of "secure" and "ebaymemberinfo" so someone built it just to make a scam.

SCAMMING A-HOLE OWNED! We scammed him. I'm sure he is out of setup fees and hosting fees. LOL

There are only about 5000 of those scams out there for eBay alone. I get one once a month and I report ALL of them to eBay (I'm not even member of eBay) and they send me info confirming that the scam has been shut down.

I get the same kinda e-mails all the time, but alot of them are "WHY HAVNT YOU SENT MY ITEM! IS THIS A SCAM?!".... check the user name and the user has never purchased anything from me.. I would recomend floating your pointer over the links, lots of times the actual link will show up in the bottom right of the window you use... Well on Outlook express it does, not sure about other e-mail progies...

We get the same emails. I never click on the links since if eBay is going to send you an email, they will also send it to your 'messages' folder on eBay. I recommend never using any links provided in an email assumed to be coming from eBay because if there is somethine eBay wants you to address, they will tell you when you log in to your account.

You can also right click on any of the email links in these spoofs and select properties and it will tell you exactly where the email is going to send you.

i get them constantly...you should always remember that no company should ever ask you for information that way...and also remember eBay has its own message service within eBay site if you are a member and that is usually how they send official mail
