It was a rainy Sunday morning the 25th of June but we pulled out for Myrtle Beach for three days and then off to the Tail of The Dragon in Deal's Gap North Carolina (http://tailofthedragon.com/) until Saturday. Two guys, two ladies and two Harleys loaded to the hilt.
We rode in the rain all day Sunday to get to the beach. There were periods of sunshine but they were few and far between. At one point the rain was falling so hard we had to pull off on the shoulder of the interstate because we simply could not see where we were going. With no overpass or exit in sight we had to stay on the shoulder of the road and just take whatever Mother Nature handed us. Finally after 20 minutes the rain subsided and we rode off.
Got to the beach about 6 PM and checked in to the motel. Man was it nice to get DRY! I don't think I could have driven one more mile. Got up the next morning and went out on the bikes to look around and see what we could get into. Didn't take long for the sun to get blotted out by a big cloud and the rain to start again. We rode back to the motel and dried off. By the time we were dry again the sun was back out so we went to dinner at an all you can eat seafood place that totally sucked. It rained while we were there but it cleared up by the time we finished. That night we took a cab and went to a bar and we all got messed up and came back to the motel by cab. Interesting bar...dueling pianos. Two guys playing songs requested by the patrons. We had a blast! They were very good musicians and very funny too.
Wensday morning we left the beach and headed for the hills of North Carolina and Tennesse. The Tail of the Dragon 300 and some turns in 11 miles! It was fantastic fun!
After the run down the tail we were in Tennesse. We stopped and had lunch and after lunch came out to the bikes to leave and mine ( a FLHT Electraglide) wouldn't crank. The clutches in the starter motor were history! So we pushed her and got her started. Lucky for me there was a Harley dealer right down the street. So we went in and the folkes there (Smokey Mountain Harley Davidson) treated us like gold. They threw the bike right on the lift and started working on it. I waited out in the showroom looking over the new stock...I was made an offer on my old bike that I couldn't refuse so I bought this
It's got cruise control, AM/FM/CB/MP3CD Intercom and theft alarm system!
A $22,000 starter motor...the bike was free!
At one point I had five people working on my new bike taking chrome off my old one and putting it on the new one so we could hurry up and get back on the road. What a great buying experiance! Want a harley..go there and get one....they treat you like a customer ought to be treated!
I was even invited by my salesman to come back to Tennesse and stay at his home!
What a vacation!
