The only problem I can see with that idea is the air at the cowl is high pressure which means it will push back in,and not vent.

I thought about venting the cowl with my stock hood a month ago. It was very cool then. To test it out I took the plastic cover off just above brake booster and put a remote thermometer there. The hot air did not appear to be sucked out of the compartment through the hole while I was driving but hot air did quickly rise up through the hole as soon as you slowed down. I even played with some foam to try and get some vacume but it did'nt work. Might be good for in town stop/go driving.
What I did not test was putting the therocouple a few inches down the hole to see if cool air was actually being pushed into the compartment. I'll check this out over the next few days.
I better do this before my mopower shaker gets delivered or it won't get done. I'm sure there won't be a problem then. I can't wait

Forgive me if I sound ignorant... don't some hoods use this to suck air in? I.E. not use the air scoop but an opening in the rear of the hood with a slight lift on the outside to create negative pressure on the inside to promote colder air to be sucked in... ? I hope I said that right... lol

Again, forgive me for my ignorance.

Cowl induction. Some Chevys used it (70's and 80's)and it did work and produced some horsepower. The air would be flow across the hood and be sucked in at base of windshield.

The wipes arent sucked up... they are being BLOWN up...by the wind pressure...

It is high pressure, thats why they still tie the air cleaner to the cowl in Nascar, pressurized cold air.

Let me know how it works Tony... We are running the same hood.... and I will do almost anything to get the temps down.

I love the stuff you come up with.

    Take care,

Is the place you want to cut in front of the rubber seal on the top of the firewall or in back?

this should almost eliminate heat soak. any thoughts on this?

    Concur.

Regardless of whether inside air is flowing out of these ports, or outside air is flowing in through these ports, the airflow itself will result in a cooler engine bay by eliminating pockets of stagnant heated air.

It's quite possible that direction of air flow will vary with speed.

A very basic, but effective, aerodynamicist's trick is to tie short strips of yarn at various positions along the grates, then observe their relative position as your speed increases. You could even tape some yarn strips along the rear of the hood and observe airflow there at speed as well.

Another project well worth the doing, Tony. Kudos.

    Another great mod Tony!

I can't wait to hear how it works.
