Park Sense

It's not quite a mod, but this car (or truck or SUV, take your pick) is two feet longer than my last car with bad rear visibility. The Magnum Accessory Catalog lists Park Sense:

I'm trying to get a quote FROM my local dealer so they can have it installed before I pick up the car, but it looks like it requires painting, which will likely drive up the price to about $800 for this $300 part. We're waiting on official prices FROM the dealerships parts department before we have a solid number.

Let me know if anyone else has had something like this installed...

We added it to a 04 Durango a few weeks ago, not a huge job, but the rear bumber cover has to come off. Painting of the sensors is optional... we did not and it looked fine.

How much did it cost? and what color as the sensors? I'm getting a black car anyway, so if the sensors are black....

I'm interested in how this sytems works. I undertstand how the sensors work but how is that information given to the driver? Audio through the speakers? Is there anything additional that needs to be installed in the interior that is visible?

There is a small nub on the headliner towards the cargo area. The nub has LED lights, ranging FROM green to red. As you near something, backup lights on the nub move FROM green to red and it beeps quicker.

It tends to "false positive" more than anything, which can be annoying. For example, if you're within 6 inches of something, it tends to beep, which greatly reduces its usefulness. Still, I'm glad I have it.

Thanks. So if I am reading this correctly, then you look at the nub through the rearview mirror or over your shoulder as you are looking back. Is there anyway to post a picture of it?

Is there anyway to turn it off if you want?

It came standard on the C's (or at least the ones I drove). Not sure how they work though. My uncle has a Caravan with some park sensing, and it beeps like a freaking delivery truck when it starts to sense things in the back. Is it that same way with our LX's?

I installed an aftermarket kit and it works very well for $99.
It even "speaks" the distance to the object in feet.

Given the length of the Dodge Magnum, I would think the Micro3s would be used instead of the VDI-2s??

I don't think the length of the car makes a difference. The three sensors are used on wider vehicles.
