    New Muffler Exhaust

I'm thinking when I get in my Magnum RT I'm going straight to the muffler shop. I want a more muscular sound. I'm thinking of getting a Dynomax muffler (Super Turbo Kit). Here's a link to the sound:

    http://www.dynomax.com/audio/track05.wav

I want a nice low bellow at lower rpms but at highway speeds I'd like it to quiet down. I also like the 50 series Flowmaster. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Brian

I wonder what it will sound like when the engine is in four cylinder mode?

Hopefully not too much different. It doesn't sound any different when it shifts INTO 4 with the stock exhaust. Anyone have any insight on this?

I think the Dynomax will sound great.
I had the super turbo's in my Cutlass, loved the sound.
When I redid the motor I went with the UltraFlo race magnum's and they sound really good too, similar sound but louder.

    Muffler change

I just wionder what that change will do to the warranty. Will D-C void the warranty if you install aftermarket mufflers? I Too would like some flowmasters on my Magnum R/T after I get it (Had a 94 Impala SS wagon with a larger cat back system and flowmasters and it really sounded mean- I loved teh exhaust rap after I let off the gas).

    Re: Muffler change

I would be very suprised if mufflers voided your warranty. Maybe an exhaust system that bypassed the cat but just a muffler... that's something you end up replacing eventually anyway.

any bolt on like that will not void the warranty, unless it is the cause of a problem...

fluxanimator - there was no such thing as a '94 Impala SS wagon, unless you made a Caprice look like an Impala. Were you one of the guys on the old NAISSO forum? I wonder how many former or present '94 to '96 Impala SS owners will wind up being 300C owners? I suspect many. It sure would be fun to have 300 / Magnum gatherings and GROUP events like the Impala SS crowd did. Here in southern CA, we paraded in a long caravan INTO the Super Chevy SHOW every year, and once had more then 70 cars trying to stay together on a trip up 101 FROM LA to Santa Barbara. I hosted a brake modification party at my house. Quite a few guys drag raced. We had Christmas parties, presentations by companies, and bunches of other events.

I am actually a member of So-CalSS and a reader of the of Impalass Forums. I currently have a 91 Caprice wagon thats completely customized. Before this I had an Impala and a 9C1 caprice both heavily modified. I wasn't planning on selling the wagon when my Magnum comes in next week....but...the wife and I have been talking and the amount of my toys is exceeding available space. So the wagon would be first on the list to go. It all depends on how much I like the Magnum if I'm willing to give up the caprice entirely for it...we'll see....
But yes the commradery of the groups is great and theres nothing like caravaning INTO somewhere with 50+ of all the same cars at different stages of customization...nothing gets more looks then that. Who knows....it could happen here too I guess.

Has anyone examined the exhaust system on an R/T? I looked under 1 FROM the rear and saw true duals with an unusual muffler under the badk seat area that was siameesed INTO 1 big case but surely had 2 separate exhaust paths on either side. Then there were 2 more smaller mufflers, maybe resonators at the rear just before the exhaust tips. Maybe bypassing the rear pair would give the desired sound. I have no idea about backpressure FROM either muffler. I too wonder what the sound would be like in the 4 cyl mode if muffler mods were done, but realize that when in that mode you do not have your foot in it! I wonder about airbox mods to improve breathing at the front end also. Maybe large pipe with a cone filter like the 360 air filter on my Ram Hemi.

If you use a cone air filter, you want cold air FROM outside of the engine compartment, so need a baffle or something fancier. Also, there are two types of cones - one only draws air in the sides, while the other also draws air in FROM the small end of the cone.
