Kirkey Pro Drag Race Seat Install Pics

Well I finished up at 11:00 last night. Everything went well. It took forever to drill through the 1/4" steel in 2 places on the seat bracket from Planted. I never should have tried that with a cordless drill, lol. I recharged it about a million times. The NHRA rules state that the seat back must touch the rollbar. I ordered a bracket from Kirkey, but it was too short, so I added a couple short pieces of Aluminum that I had. Hey, it touches, lol.

I have the seat mounted with 8 grade 8 bolts on the bracket, the 4 stock locations and 4 new locations to the seat bottom. I Mounted 2 side bracket seat mounts with 4 more bolts in the side of the seat. The seat isn't going anywhere.

I also installed a Simpson 5 pt. racing harness, using grade 8 bolts on it as well. The seat is done and the harness is in. I still have to adjust the belts and clean up. I was too pooped last night.

Cant believe folks did not ask question about your install which looks excellent. This thread is very timely for me as I am looking to install the Kirkey seat in my Charger.
Q1. Which Kirkey seat did you install? I have a big butt and was thinking of using the 20" hip width seat.

Q2. which degree lay back did you chose? Is it confortable?

Q3. Can you provide pics of the brackets used to mount the seat? Did you make them or did you buy them (part #)?

Q4. What is the seat bracket for Planted (part #)?

    Thanks for posting this thread.

The 20" seat won't fit. Gawd did I get teased about the "Lazy Boy" I tried to install. I ordered this one Kirkey Racing 41300 - Kirkey Aluminum Pro Street Drag Seats - Overview - SummitRacing.com

Q2. which degree lay back did you chose? Is it confortable?

18* lay back and it is comfy. I used a giant bath towel as extra padding and for more height.

Q3. Can you provide pics of the brackets used to mount the seat? Did you make them or did you buy them (part #)?

I used 4 hockey pucks to elevate the seat. Billet Aluminum blocks work too.

    Hey nice install Illinois Chaos!!

    Darth:
I love Kirky seats, I have an 18" one for me the driver (and it is tight at 195 lbs 6'3")
I have the 20" one for the passenger (removable for track days of course). It was my old drivers seat but I want a lighter, tighter fitting seat for the track.

I also have spare never used kirkey seat mounting brackets and backrest for cheap$ if you can wait a week for me to ship them.

Thanks for the info Hemiwagn. I am 6.0' and 270 lbs so the 18" might be a tight fit for me. I would think I would need the 20" wide seat based on your comment but Illinois Chaos said it would not fit with his cage for the drivers side. I am getting the 6-point roll bar installed and guess will need to make measurements to see if I can get a 20" in there. I actually measured the wooden chair I am sitting on and it is 16" in the back and 18.75 by the thights. Maybe the 18" will work.

In regard to the brackets, I am not sure what I will need and Illinois Choa's summary is useful. Would like to use a slider to adjust but will keep you in mind when I finally decide as I am in fact-finding mode at present. Can you provide the part numbers so that I know what you have? Send a PM regarding price.
    Thanks

It's an NHRA requirement that the seat must touch the Roll Bar. There is a set of threaded bolt locations for the seat belt mounts on the Roll Bar and I just attatched the Kirkey Roll Bar Mount and added a couple pieces of aluminum to reach them.

Hey Darth, today I get a 10% off anything from 425 Motorsports. Anyone who wants to buy the Planted seat bracket, this is where I purchased it. Very high quality bracket and it only required some light modifications to make the seat fit perfect. It mounts to the stock locations on the bottom. PM me for the Coupon Code for 10% discount.

Dam I just ordered the bracket this very minute. Send me the code and I will see if they will honor it. By the way, did you purchase the grade 8 bolts from 402? I am not sure which set(s) I need and how many.
