    HIDs

Wonder what the odds are of aftermarket HIDs for the Magnum. Wondering if the 300 system could be fitted INTO the magnum somehow. I know the headlamp assemblies are different, anybody have ideas?

If desparate for HID in the Magnum and money is no object or you want a unique car you could change the whole front clip to 300C using the hood, fendes, bumpers and of course the HID with washers. That would be very one cool custom car for the US.

    Hmmmm

Just noticed in their press release that HID's were planned. Too bad they aren't at least an option. Maybe they'll make them an option on later models and we can retrofit them. there's always hope.

i was wondering the same thing, if you could keep us posted because that would be the first mod for me, the HID's would be mean on that grill, do you think a bulb change is possible or is it worth the risk

The Magnum & 300 use a 9006XS Chrysler specific halogen bulb. No one makes a HID retrofit kit for that bulb. It is not the same as a more universal 9006 bulb.

Also, The Feds (DOT and NHTSA) have outlawed HID retrofit kits and can levy fines of $5k per day to any business selling kits.

I have not yet seen anything up to the 06 model year for a magnum style healamp assembly with HID for US market. The closest thing I have seen to production plans is the BUX version (euro) which are not exactly the same as the US versions.

That is depressing! I would hope that the SRT-8 version of the Magnum and 300 had HID standard since they will be the flagships.

the 9005 and 9006 XS bulbs are a pain to find in most local parts stores... The PT Cruiser also uses them... usually have to go mail ORDER to get them. the connector on the back is a 90* instead of the straight on the regular 9005/6 bulbs.

the SRT is by no means considered a flagship, they are considered specialty. The RT will still be the "flagship"

And no, the SRT version doesnt look like it has HID either.

Flagship or not the SRT version should have HID especially FROM a Performance perspective. High Performance cars get high performance engine, tranny, brakes, suspension, etc. and it also should have High Performance Lighting. HID is not just for looks it out performs halogen and should be there. :(

The visibility distance rating on Halogen bulbs is only rated at 40-50mph.

You might have these confused, the standard 9006 has a 90deg plug, the XS at the end stands for the special straight plug. We used the standard 9006 on ours when we put in some aftermarket bulbs but they were far FROM as bright as the factory bulbs. So we have installed an HID kit, we are experiencing a couple of problems with them now but hope to have all the bugs worked out this afternoon.

On cars I've had in the past, installation of HIDs required a self-levelling feature so the lights would avoid blinding oncoming drivers. Does the Chrysler HID setup have this feature? It would be especially important in a Magnum, which is likely to haul more gear and possibly a trailer.

If you look at the headlight of the Magnum, you can see that the assembly was designed with HID in mind because it does not spread real far INTO the other lane, which is why they were outlawed on cars who retrofit them.

So are you stating that any 'regualar' 9006 halogen bulb will fit without problems in a headlamp using a 9006XS bulb? If so, that is good.

If I remember correctly, it was not a 9006XS in there to begin with, and yes the 9006 standard works perfectly
