    Gauge Trim Ring Removal

    Previously posted by Magnumstarr:

    Gauge Trim Rings Painted Today - EASY!
    Well, I finally did the gauge trim ring mod today - pretty easy. I does require removal of the the main instrument cluster trim/bezel panel. Sorry no pics. Just wanted to remind everyone that you should remove the entire assembly versus attempting to remove the rings from the front. There are three tabs on each section of the trim rings. I could tell that the rings (and tabs) are not too robust = FRAGILE!!! I just started from one side, popping the tabs loose with a small straight screwdriver.

    Super simple mod - $3.29 for Testors Metallic Silver and about 1 hour (most of this is drying time). Paint was perfect - not a single run or orange peel.

    HEY MAGNUMSTARR...
    Or for that matter, ANYONE who can tell or show me how to get that %&*$(#)@ gauge trim ring off. I was trying to use two very small and very slim flathead screw drivers and I couldn't figger it. I was scared to death that I was going to break it!

    PLEASE can anyone show me the way to get this thing off? Be sexplicit cuz I aint got much larnin;

    I thank ya!

    What I did was take a thin bladed knife between the rings and the bezels. Slid it until it hit a tab then slowly rotated the knife and they popped right out with zero braking. I lil textured black paint and it popped them back in. Lots of tabs, at first was thinking of just leaving it off all together and backlighting the holes with LEDs.

    Any body have a good photo of the rings removed? I'm wanting to send a picture of the rings to a chromer for an estimate.

    That is cool. I wonder how this would compare to chroming.

    Yes, you can chrome plastic. Trim piece around the shifter is a good example.

    I'd like to send the rings to a place like www.xxxplating.com
