    Front Caliper Decals

I applied these Caliper Decals today. Took SoCalRT's recommendation from another post and ordered a set. Pretty cool addition to the Red calipers on the Red Sled R/T.

I ordered these from Brent Franker. His e-mail is vinylguy@tampabay.rr.com and web-page is http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/vinyl/vinyl.htm

Hey, looks great. But I noticed one thing... do yourself a favor and remove the retaining clips from your lug bolts. They have been known to cause vibrations on aftermarket wheels, because the face of the wheel won't be able to mate up flat with the hub. In the picture, they look like 2 circlular brass-colored tabs. They pull right off with pliers. If you've never had any vibes, great; if you have, hope that helps!

Dang, I got to get my Vinyl Cutter Setup and running. Nice Touch to the Calipers.
I noticed you have the rotor clips attached. No problems with vibration? Just wondering.

Thanks. No problem with vibration. Most likely due to this forged wheel design. Take a look at the rear. I noticed these retainers today and was wondering what they're for?? I'll pull them off if not needed.

    Those looks great!!

Also, do you HAVE to use high temp paint?
I was thinking about trying to use an OEM color. Iv’e seen that on a few Porsche’s and it looks clean, real classy too!

Did you clear over the decals?

Any prep needed to paint the calipers?

    Thanks!

those are very nice. I got some from vinzdecals.com or something like that after someone posted a link on the forum...they were like $11.00 and arrived in less than a week. I think mine are a little smaller than yours. these little stickers sure attract attention. I like them.

it may a good idea to spray clear over them to keep the nice. I can imagine what the winter roads will do to them next winter. The company sends spares...so we'll see

    Two Coats

I assume the caliper paint is equivalent to engine paint not Header paint but don't know. I used the Dupli-Color Caliper Paint, Red Caliper Kit BCP400. Brush on. You need to clean the calipers before painting and the surface needs to be free of brake dust before you apply the decals, Spray brake cleaner is provided in the Dupli-color kit. I didn't use clear over the decals. I'll wait and see how they hold up. I've got an extra set for the front.

    Monkey,
I like the small rear caliper decals you have. Brent sent me four decals but they are way to big for the rear.

Well this just adds one more mod to the list. I've been thinking about doing it for some time now. I'm getting my rims and tires the end of this month so it looks like I'll do it this week-end. Only thing I was thinking about doing is adding some deeper red to the Dupli-Color paint. No offence to anyone thas done it but the paint just looks alittle to much like a crayon color and looks alittle orange then deep red. I figure I'd just mix in some red engine paint with the Dupli-Color paint. That said it looks really good!!!!

I wish the finish was flat instead of gloss.

Whipe with a bit of deglosser or even a little brake clean. That will dull the finish. Wont be as easy to clean though. Since we have ceramic pads and no brake dust then that may not be an issue.

I didnt use the duplicolor paint. and the pic does look a little orangey...but they are almost spot on w/ brembo red. I use massey fergeson red tractor paint...rustoleum I think, applied 2 liberal coats with a brush so the finish smoothed out to a thick shiny coat. no probs with heat or winter salt. When I changed the rims over last week a little glass cleaner on a rag cleaned them back up to new. $6 for the paint. I did my car and a friend did his pacifica with the same can and there is still enough left to do probably 8 more cars
