Feeler - custom braided upper radiator hoses?!?!

Throwing this out there to wet your whistle until I get more detailed info. tomorrow... I'm working with a company to get a custom braided upper radiator hose for my SRT. Ekaz and Hops23 are in with me too. The company is Spectre... here's the deal. You send them a hose (has to be brand new), they wrap braid around it and bond it just like the pre-made straight hose you can buy by the foot. Costs $50 + the hose + shipping. You also need clamps... the fancy dressy clamps are like $10 each.

So how many people would be interested in doing this? I don't know if I can negotiate a deal or not, but it might at least be a little easier if we send a few at once. FYI, an OEM upper rad. hose from Mopar for the 6.1L runs about $25-$30. I'm guessing total cost, all-in, to be around $125.

If you want to wait for a final cost and the results, let me know that too. I'll post that stuff and I can hook you up with the how-to's and who-to's once we get this first round done.

I'll let you have the whole extra half gallon of coolant to top off after you replace the hose.

    Ya big baby

The fancy ends are just fancy ends... www.summitracing.com carries the Spectre stuff. I think Jegs does too. They're just worm gear style clamps with fancy billet covers that make them look like proper threaded fittings. Wherever possible, I'm all for getting real threaded fittings... but the water neck and radiator just plain can't be threaded, so fake it is :-) Here are pictures of Spectre clamps from the Summit site...

    A chrome one by Earl's:

    One from Aeroquip:

And here is an image of some samples of other applications:

These are all from www.summitracing.com, but other people carry similar products.

I'm sure Spectre will do other hoses... but that's one of the things I'll be asking them about tomorrow. Details will follow. I just wanted to see if there was any interest for now.

Plus the cost of the OEM hose and the fancy clamps (assuming you want to make it look good installed, not just in the box)... like I said, about $125 all in. Has to be a new hose, they won't do one that's been heated and had coolant in/on it and stuff.

So what do we need to do to get these? Interested here if they are true custom hoses.

^^ More details to come today as far as where to send it, lead time, etc. What I know now is that basically you ship OE hoses to them, they braid 'em and send 'em back. And as I said, the braid is wound onto the hose and bound to it just like the stuff you buy by the foot... it's not just a sleeve they slide over and tape on!

uhh...so you buy the hose online, right??...so u can technically have it shipped straight to the place that braids it and then they ship 2 u...

That's on my list of questions. Problem with that might be that whoever you get the hose from would have to somehow identify what it was there for, who it was for, etc. Might be able to get a supplier to take the time to do that for you, might not.
