    exhaust mod

So I got the back mufflers/resonators (whichever they are) chopped out of the back end of the exhaust and some magnaflow tips welded on. For those looking for more noise, this isn't the answer. There is a little more noise, but it's not loud at all. It seems like all those mufflers did was mute out a low tone that I can hear now around 2-3000rpms. Word is though that Borla is working on a cat back system. Probably the best thing FROM cutting those mufflers out is that the car lost about 50 pounds.

    CONGRATS!

All I want is the same sound my 440 powered Imperial made through those Edelbrock ceramic packed muffs that I had on it!! That sound was nearly pornografic!

I want it to sound like it does on the commercial.
    It doesn't.

I don't plan on doing a lot of performance mods (at least not for a while) but I will be dropping in a cat back when it comes out.

Any word FROM Flow Master yet?

I'm sure that who ever comes out with the cat back system will sell many. I will be waiting on the sidelines.

Why not just get a custom exhaust done?? FROM what I have seen of the cat back systems any good muffler shop should be able to bend you a custom set that is as good or better.

Personally, with a car as computer driven as this with so many closely integrated features (not to mention the MDS) I would prefer a system that was engineered and fully dyno tested in a lab and possibly even had some significant test miles put on it rather than a custom job by a shop.
Regardless if it is a quality experienced shop, no one has much experience on this engine.
Just about any other car I wouldn't worry so much about it. The worst that could happen to most cars would be some valve damage if there isn't the right back pressure.
This car, I don't know, and I don't trust others to know yet either.
This being my first new car (and will be my only car when I let the insurance expire on my Honda next month) I'd rather play it a little safer until I, and techs, learn more about the operating dyanmics of the car through real world experience and screwing up other people's cars with outside warrantee work.

new exhaust wont void the warrenty and the cats is all the backpressure the engine needs. Remove the resonator and throw a couple of flowmasters on their to give the car the growl it should have.

Borla pipes on the way and tricking out a year 1 auto woes

Just got off with some of the fine folks over at Borla and the Cat-Back Stainless high flow mufflers and pipes will either be released tomorrow (the 30th)from manufacturing or next Friday (the 6th)at the latest. Also, they told me that the pipes sound deep and sweet, gives normal average range horse jump 8-15 and they reccomend a high flow intake filter (K&N, etc.) for optimal performance.

The free flow in and out should warrant you about 15-18 new ponies to play with. They also told me that the kit has some super sexy 4" diameter, big and long triple-chrome tips. That will look nice with the Magnum considering the low top and big bottom stance that it has.... kinda' like my ex-wife

And now for the most important part of my endless rambling.... The kit should price out just below $1k, with the aftermarket dealers cutting them down INTO the high 7's to low 8's. I would personally recommend going to a "Borla Authorized Distributor" and ordering / pre-ordering pipes now.

We all know the car is in high demand and so does everyone in the car world and parts shop businesses. Think now; If someone that doesnt have the sacred
Magnum but buys up 10 pipe kits for, could make some pretty damn good pocket change.

**Conspiracy Theory Time** First, the person increases demand in that area by buying up all the kits, and you know there will be other areas where these are in high demand, secondly ....SHABAM!!!, puts those sexy pipes country-wide on eBay starting at $800 + Shipping and you could'nt even dare him to lose money.

Because there is ALWAYS going to be a shortage SOMEWHERE, especially in the first production year bad-ass Auto. and we all know that SOMEONE FROM SOMEWHERE would do a $1200 "buy it now" because it's easier to justify to the mind when you visually see the pipes laying on someone's carpet To be the first on the block to get them, HAVING had pictures of the pipes to look every night until the pipes arrived, will have tricked the person mind INTO believing that he just DID NOT paid $200 over invoice and $400 over dealer prices and totally disregarding that an average of 3 months down the road, he could have put that extra cash on a perf chip, cold air box, etc. In the tunnel vision of customizing a new car or bike, afficianados do weird stuff.

In a terribly large nutshell, go pre-order/order your pipes now (if you like Borla Performance's stuff..I love their stuff, very quality) before demand jacks up the price leaving you in a situation where you have to decide if you want to pay now or save later.
This is NOT only limited to pipes, I'm talking super-chargers, cold air kits, suspension kits, chip mods, hell, you get the picture. Get your stuff and pile it up until the car comes in, or wait to bend-over to the front and touch your toes.

Sorry for the super long ramble, I'm just a passionate Motorcycle & Car guy. 8)

I am looking forward to the Borla product. Generally a nice sound. I will have to find someone that gets it and have a listen.

I need quiet under normal condition (to keep the wife happy and growl at throttle (to keep me happy).

Borla is good, but I'll wait for Corsa before deciding

I've always loved Borla's V6 and 4-banger cat-back systems, but I've never heard better than Corsa for V-freakin-8s (just my personal preference; your mileage may vary). Word FROM that horse's mouth is that they're definitely working on a kit for the Magnum so I'll wait.

FWIW, they have some nice recordings on their website of various cars with their exhaust systems installed. If you've never heard one, I'd highly recommend listening to those. The Corvette and the Cadi Seville STS systems especially are almost eargasm inducing. :D

I got the borla's for my 03 Tbird and love them. However it is a week-end car. I have had the car for a year and only have 4,000 miles on it. The bird it is on the verge of being too loud. As a matter of fact the wife never drives it because she says it is too loud. A bonus I did not forsee. The RT will be the daily driver so I am not too sure of changing the exhaust.

That was a concern of mine as well.....however, if the computer is that sensitive,
then I would think that even adding a K&N filter would throw things off. I did add
a K&N air filter last week, and yesterday swapped the factory exhaust, FROM the
cat's back, with two series 40 Flowmasters. So far, all seems to be OK.
