Changing buttons
Can anyone point me to a decent DIY article to change the text/icon on buttons in the instrument panel? I'm thinking it's like a 5 step process:
1) sand the surface down to remove the top layer of black paint
2) paint using translucent/white paint
3) use some kind of "reverse" stencil in the shape of the icon/text I want
4) paint black back over the top
5) remove stencil
The part I'm thinking will cause me the most issues is the "reverse stencil" part. I've got a couple of ideas, but I'd prefer to learn from others' mistakes before I make my own if I have any choice.
Any clues or pointers?

Specifically the buttons in the center console of my mag above the radio, below the vents. I've got an extra set that I'll be mounting elsewhere, I'm just looking for some info on making the icons/text be applicable to the project at hand, rather then trying to explain/remember that the "ESP OFF" actually means turn this other thing on.

Gotcha. Are they painted black or is it a 2-piece button w/ a black overlay over a clear backing?

They sure appear to be painted. Since the icons/text used currently are painted white and flush with the surface of the button.
