    Auto Headlights

ONe thing I am going to miss FROM my current car is auto-headlights. THe 300C has them, the Magnum RT, does not I believe.

So I think of adding them. GM and Ford sell a module. DC does not as far as I can tell.

One product that could work is:

    http://www.designtech-intl.com:8080/...=12&step=4

But that unit powers the lights by bypassing everything. Effective, but not very elegant .

    Anyone know of other options?

I'd find out how the 300C system works. I'm sure it uses the a sun sensor. Does the sun sensor also work the Auto HVAC controls? If so, the Mag may already have the sensor needed and it may be as easy as getting the module for the 300C and plugging it INTO the Magnum. (at worst, it may involve some creative wiring). I don't see why a solution wouldn't exist for using the 300 parts.

Anyone have a CD manual yet? I'm sure if we compared the two schematics there's a solution.

it would make sense that both cars have the same wiring harneses... its more cost effective to mass produce one harness than to make several different versions of it... its also easyier when assembling the cars on the line... just that some parts aren't used depending on options...
so the auto headlight wires might be in the dash of the Magnum.. you just need to add the sensor... maybe....

I know in my PT there are extra wires with plugs on the end for some options I don't have... It seems that Chrysler just made one harness for all models and then only use whats needed for each car...

That would be nice, but I don't think it entirely true. A comparison of the wiring schematics and the actual wiring will tell us.

If it is anything like the Intrepid an 300M, you can swap the switches as long as you have the sunload sensor, and Viola you have Auto Headlights.

Thanks for alerting those of us who did not know. Now we can ORDER the needed parts when we ORDER our cars.

I logged onto techauthority. The wring and setup of the 300C and dodge magnum is the same. Auto headligth should be as easy as replacing the switch. Basically it uses various resister to determine the function. Easy enough to add an aftermarket switch to add a resistor in, except that the fog lamp factor in also. I will try to find some time to figure ot the circuit over the next couple of days.

Not really htat tough, but I have to remind myself how to calculate resistance with multiple parrellel and serial links.

I have not done any circuit design in 20 years. :-)

I worked on the wiring for the LX carline (at least did the after study of it) The Dodge and the Chrylser have different harness part numbers, and every single option is a different part number. DC has gone to a system where they ONLY pay for what they want in that specific car, no give away circuits if at all possible. There are like 140 harness part numbers for the 05 LX platform, REDICULOUS in my opinion.... gonna try to do something about that in the coming years.

That is a pain. INtersting the wiring diagam and connector shown on Techauthority are the same. Once I get my Magnum, I'll play around. Can always go with a aftermarket unit.

Not saying that the swap of the light switch to auto lamp switch will not work, just that if there is a difference in wiring like say you bought a car without auto climate controll and wanted to put that in, since there is no wires required without the auto climate controll, you wont have them there if you wanted to install it later. Same goes for U-connect, garage door opener, heated seats, etc.

I have a fealing though that the headlamp deal might just work, next question is the auto down windows on the 300C, I am gonna look INTO that one for the Magnum, but I have a fealing it wont work for that.

I just went over to the Chyrstler dealership in town and they sell a head light switch specifically built for the auto headlights feature... it's just under $50. I was thinking about getting one and seeing if it would fit on my Magnum... Any comments or concerns that I should be aware of before trying this? I kinda figure I'm gonna get the dash off and find that I'm missing a cable that I need to make it all work...

According to the manuals, the connector is the same. Interesting enough the switch only uses to wires to control the headlights, parking light and fog lights. The switch contains resistors in a mux setup to let the car know what you want to happen.

Best guess is it will work. I am going to test my theory as soon as I get my car with some resistors, unless someone beats me to it.

So let me know if the switch works.

Ordered the switch while I was out for lunch... it'll be here on Tuesday so I'll try it out middle of next week depending on weather/work/family. Has anyone taken the dash off their Magnum yet? The dealership gave me a diagram of how it all the peices match up but nothing on where the screws or clips are. They said on Tuesday they might let me look at their online manuals to see how to do it... I went and looked at the sensor on the dash of the 300C and it is identical looking to the one on my Magnum so I'm hoping for the best!

BTW, the switch costs 49.10 + tax so its not an overly expensive mod if it works...
