    300C Navigation Modification Possible?

I have the NAV system in the 300C and it works great. However, once you start driving the system prevents input to a destination. This means that a passenger could not enter a destination in the system while you drive. Does anyone know if there is a way to disable this "feature". Must be something in a cable disconnect that monitors the speed of the car.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

on the intrepids/300M the nav unit read the car's speed using one wire that interfaced with the computer

there was talk of setting up a toggle switch on that wire to "bypass" the speed sensor if you wanted to try something like you mention

Not sure if anyone successfully did this mod or not, I still pull over and stop to input a new destination myself

I am sure that this is a safety requirement to "prevent" the driver FROM spending too much time inputting a new destination while driving. I would hate to see anyone get injured due to a minor inconvenience.

Not on this radio, no speed input wire guys. Everything is done over a DATA bus, the engine controller is connected to the radio in the same manor as the steering wheel buttons and the instrument panel to SHOW radio stations. Hell, there isnt even a ignition on wire, its all done over DATA bus to turn the radio on and off with ignition.

My Garmin GPS has this feature as well. It knows if your moving without connecting to the car. You can disable the lockout, but then everytime you turn it on, you have to acknowledge a disclaimer.

I'm assuming that the NAV unit can just use the GPS DATA that it recieves to determine your speed. When I used to use the DeLorme GPS on my laptop (im my old car) it told me how fast I was going and it had NO connections to my car and/or engine

From what I understand there is a VSS that tells the NAV the speed and the software disables it after15 mph. If you could somehow disable the speed sensor, the GPS would realize that the car has moved within 30 seconds and disable the features again. I’ve found a few links (http://www.rocoto.com/siennamods/body_nav_mod.html) describing how to place a timer on a NAV system to fool the speed sensor portion of the NAV every few seconds. But being that this system uses a buss type connection I’m not sure if that is even possible?
The best thing we could do is find someone who can change the programming of the unit so it doesn’t care how fast the car is moving.

I think it would be great to disable this feature. As much as I can see why they added it, it can be a royal pain in the butt. I drive around a lot with my girlfriend and she loves to play with the NAV. There should be no reason to forbid a passenger FROM entering destinations above 10MPH.

Chrysler: if you're listening, you need to tap the weight sensor (that is used for airbags) and allow the GPS to be programmed above 10MPH if it senses someone sitting in the passenger seat.
