    wierd temp observation

anyone notice that their outside temp will not change unless you are driving?

in the mornings i leave my parking garage- about 60 degrees or so. i pull outside and wait for my car pooler/s. temp stays at 60 degrees until i start driving. i can sit outside for 10 minutes and it wont budge. soon as i start driving, bam, it drops down (7 degrees today!). whats up with that?

algorythm in overhead console prevents it from being real time display in case you're stuck in traffic and sensing temp of the radiator/ac condensor.

If you enter the CCN software you can see the thermometer calibrating while you drive.

    For more complete info....

Why did they stick the sensor in such a hot enviroment? Wouldn't it make sense to have put it in the back somewhere. The algorithm for keeping it from reading 150 deg F all the time is what makes it read so strangely. Mine is consistently 5 - 7 deg high. The diag mode screen showing the RAW and Calculated values only shows how hot the real temp is. The fact that you can "adjust" the calibrated value does nothing I can find except to temporarly change the value. It gradually moves back to the original value as you drive.

i think they put it there for several reasons. one of them being that the HVAC and PCM use this info to determine the temp of the air going through the condensor. also used to calculate IAT and ECT if either one of these sensors should fail.

ok, not all chrysler stuff. i would guess it's just an estimate calculated from many inputs (fuel level, engine rpm, injector pulse width, ambient temp, etc). probably not the most accurate way to measure gas mileage.
