Has anyone opened up the bottom plastics below where the air intake goes in behind the bumper? I mean has anyone cut open a decent sized hole in the plastics attached to the lower bumper cover on drivers side directly below where air box sits to allow it to pull more fresh air? Would a sewer pipe set up from air box down to an opening cut in the plastics be of any benefit?

May I humbly suggest you take a weekend and read through the knowledge base.
There's a plethora of mods to be had in there.
I believe someone tried abs, aluminum dryer hose, etc. It's in there somewhere.
They also flipped the lower plastic radiator piece to get more air flow.
It's a neat mod for the DIY'er to try out.

Two years ago I did an intake port where you mentioned. Used 3.5" ABS pipe and 45 degree elbows. Picked up a lot of sand, small rocks, bugs and a few cigarette butts.
