    tranny slipping

I had to drop the mag off at the dealer tonight for some reason the transmission slips when it is cold out side (20 deg. or lower) I got in my car @ 5a.m. like usual backed out of the garage and put it in drive revs go up car doesnt move WTF. Leave work for lunch and WTF wont go any where revs to about 3k 3500 and barley moves shifts like crap and has a weird feeling when the convertor locks in 5th once the engine temp becomes normal all is good. (I know this has nothing to do with the engine but thats the reference point I noticed it got better) the colder the weather the worse it is. The tech wil have a hard time duplicating the prob. due to the fact that has been likke 65-70 here the last few days its supposed to cool off but not that much maybe 40 and it wont do it at that temp. Any ideas?

    I'd guess low fluid.

I have had that problem as well . . .never able to repeat it for the dealer and no "fault" messages apparent. . .so after 60,000 miles, it will still happen occassionaly.

like drumlugr said, sounds like a low fluid issue. perhaps leaking from the harness adapter o-rings???

I have the same problem with my Magnum too, and also the dealer is never able to duplicate it cause by the time I get it to the dealer it's warmed up enough and never cools back off enough to have the problem.

I had the same problem when really cold.... Happened when moved car and not fully warmed.....first time they found nothing wrong...fluid levels ok and fluid looks good....

so she does it again after about a week.....this time I left the car at the dealer and told them I would be back the next morning and to not have anyone start or move the car. Next morning got in ....we went through my routine with the tech in the driver seat.....sure enough Maggie does it. Fix....they changed my fluid....had about 29K on the fluid. I have since changed my fluid again at 46K...

could be your problem??? don't know....but it seems like it's an issue across the board

As the son of a former auto technician, and owner of more than a dozen Chrysler cars over the last 20+ years, I guess I have learned a thing or two about diagnosing tranny problem symptoms! lol

the dealer tried to charge me $180 I laughed and said i would be there to pick it up. Called another dealer the service writer new exactly what i was talking about said my warranty wolud cover it but that it would be less than my deductable (prob. around $90) Once the deal is done and if the price remains as quoted I will be calling the other dealers service manager to make a complaint, also dealer A we will call them charged me to hook it up to the diagnostic when I told them what the problem was and told them it threw no codes

I have the same problem with my vehicle 06 Magnum with 23,000 miles. Sometimes in the cold weather go to put it in reverse and the engine just revs, but doesn't go anywhere. Hard to duplicate it for the dealer, sounds like this is common, you think the dealers would be familiar with the problem.

Had the same thing happen to me a week ago when I drove my Magnum for the first time in two weeks due to holiday travels.

In reverse I couldn't get the car to move more than a mile an hour when I let the engine rev as high as 2500rpm. I drove it really gingerly the first few miles back on the road, on my way onto a 270 mile road trip. First time this has ever happened though.

I know for a fact these transmissions don't like to operate on cold fluid. I don't even consider dropping the hammer until the engine has been up to full temp for at least 15 minutes and I've already performed multiple, low revs shifts.

Earlier this year I threw a transmission CEL because I got on the freeway with too much zeal after only a 5 minute warmup in 50 degree weather, and when it kicked from 3rd gear back to 2nd while I responded to a new Z06 slipping by me, 2nd over-revved a bit and went right into limp mode.

Luckily I had my ScanGauge connected in the car and was able to shut down, clear the code and get back on the road in less than 3 minutes.

When warm, this transmission performs really, really nicely. I just make sure my fluid is up to temp before I get frisky.

if you mean the leaky o-rings, it should be covered under the provisions of your warranty.

thats what I thought and what the tsb said the first dealer acted clules and tryed to charge me out the a$$ thanks fnky. This seems to be a problem across the board I would suggest that members having trouble check to see if they are leaking from the same location, if you are unclear were it is located look @ the first few pages of this tsb the info is for the LX.http://www.wkjeeps.com/misc/LX/TSB/TSB_2100205.pdf
Also if you have trouble or they want to over charge you at the dealer print this out and take it to them. The last page states that it only pays 0.4 hours to do. I will let yu know how things go on fri.
