    Tire wear on Continentals

My 2005 Magnum RT went to the dealer today for front end alignment which was slightly off. After the alignment it was recommended that I have the tires rotated and rebalanced. I had the tires rebalanced but they could not be rotated because both rear tires are down to the treadwear bars in the centers. The front tires are worn on the outsides. My car has 8,300 miles on it and these tires will never make 12,000. Has anyone else had excessive wear? This car is not raced and with the traction control on it hardly even slips on a wet road so no burnoffs. Should I ask to have the tires replaced by the dealer? I cannot afford to buy tires every 6 months!! My wifes 96 Cougar V8 has 25,000 on its Michielins and the hardly SHOW any wear!

Sorry, mine went in the can at 6500 miles. I expect better mileage FROM ANY other tire. In the spring when I remove the blizzacks, I am installing goodyear f1-gsd3 tires, 235/50 18.

I can't wait for my wife to burn the Conti's off. Looking to upgrade to more robust tires used for sport trucks. Like the Nitto 404, 450, Kumho Escta STX, Toyo Proxes ST, etc...These tires are available in 255/55/18.

Look in the forums. Many of us Magnum owners are seeing unusual wear on the front tires

I had my alignment adjusted and the dealer also replaced my front tires at 7,000 miles because they were so badly worn. Now 3,000 miles later the same wear pattern is back. I think there is a serious front end problem with the early build Magnums.

Just noticed this week my fronts are way down. and I've done burnouts since almost day one. The rears have lots more tread.

Is there a TSB or does DCX even recognize a problem?

Took mine INTO the dealer for excessive tire wear and they said that they have a call in to Chrysler. Think I should hold my breath?

If anyone FROM Chrysler reads these boards, I doubt that any excessive tire wear claims will get any serious consideration. 340 HP, rear tires down to the wear bars??? Come on!!

Read again... Front tires are showing wear.(DC's problem) Rear tires are burned off. (not DC's problem)

    Depending on how you drive

Rear tire wear would be depemdent on how you drive, however, with the traction control on all the time I never spin my wheels even in the rain. At 58 years of age i got over burning off years ago. This does not mean i do not like to take off fast, If I didn't i would not have bought an RT. My rear tires look like new on the outsides but are bald in the center 2 treads only. The front tires are only worn on the outside edges and I do not have awd. These tires just do not wear good at all.

I have a feeling that we haven't heard the end of this tire issue, as I have posted here the bladder on my right rear tire separated and I had a lump of goo the size of a small soccer ball rolling around the inside causing a major shimmy in my steering. I just hope that if enough complaints are made, DC will REPLACE these tires. I don't feel that I should have to REPLACE these tires on my dime, but would be willing to go part way if I could find a tire in this size which was rated higher like the Michelins I had on my 300M.

    Always liked Contis.

I've liked Contis since I put a set on my '81 HD Sturgis back in "83. The Goodyers that it came with were crap on wet roads. So were the Goodyears I had on my '74 Opel Manta.

I wonder if maybe there's some difference in production runs because mine still look great with no signs of unusual wear. But I don't really expect any at just over 3000 miles. I very seldom do burnouts because of the traction control. I really dislike standing on the brakes to do a burnout.

I don't have the right pull thing, but on certain roads, there's a slight drift to the right (and sometimes left). I blame the road. On a newly paved road, I can take my hands off the wheel and she tracks straight as an arrow.

How many miles did you guys have on yours before you noticed the wear?

My 300C (still an LX) has over 13K miles on it. No pull, never. No alignment issues either. Tires are rotated every 5K miles. I drive it pretty hard, MPG and speeding tickets to prove it. So far, knock on wood, my tires look great. I have the dreaded self sealers too!

Continental does not care, The dealer wishes that I would go away and leave them alone. Planetfeedback.com is next. At least I can vent and Continental will see my coments on public display. I have used this web site before with some interesting results. If I can think of another way to be a pain in the neck to get some satisfaction, I'll post.

Today I received a call FROM the local dealership saying that DC will REPLACE the tires. So, do you think there is a problem or do they have a soft spot for my situation? I guess I will still have Conti's but this will give the other manufacturers time to make the correct size for this vehicle by the time normal tire replacement occurs.
