RKE Battery Low in EVIC??

I was leaving work this morning when I looked in the EVIC and saw "RKE Battery Low" at the bottom of the display. I first thought it was the EVIC listing the title to a song in the CD player but didn't recognize the name and it wasn't in the proper display area. I scrolled through the EVIC and found a System Warning's option I never saw before. I selected this and the RKE Battery Low comes up in there also. I searched the knowledge base for any info and just found that it is an actual warning that will show in the EVIC, nothing more than that? I also searched the forum and could not find any hits for the same! Build date for my RT LX is October 2004, purchased in November 2004 and I currently have 13k on it. I have upgraded the exhaust (see signature).

Remote Key Entry Battery Low

I had this displayed once too. Haven't had it happen again since.

Change the battery in your key fob.

If you have remote start instlled this is a little bug in the system if I recall correctly. I know there is info somewhere in this forum about it as it has been mentioned several times and I think there is also a TSB about it.

I'm a little short on time at the moment or I would have done a search and provided a link for you.

flhthemi, I did a pretty thorough search and found nothing on the subject. I do know I have accidentally washed the key fob with my pants a few times, oops! I don’t have remote start installed. I'll change the battery in the fob and see if the message goes away. It was raining pretty bad and I was about 100 feet from my magnum when I unlocked the door before I got the message. Will the warning go away on its own or will I have to do something to reset it? Thanks for all the info guys! I was thinking the vehicle battery was getting low and needed to be replaced already!!

I'll just change the battery when I'm out and about today! Simple fix, why make a moutain outta a mole hill. The car is over a year and a half old and I have noticed decreased performance with the key fob. Sometimes it doesn't unlock on the initial depress of the button! This is the only thing it really can be in my situation becasue I dont have remote start. Thanks for the info Ratman, now I feel bad about making fun of your bumper when you got it installed several months ago!!

I stoped by the dealer today to reset my CEL (I get it every once in a while due to the LT headers) and asked about the battery in the key so I can replace it. He told me to bring in both keys and he'll replace the battery at no cost. He said he needs the other key incase the key dumps the progam! Sweet deal, the manager said it's covered under warranty!
