P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction - UPDATE

    UPDATE 11/2/06

    Got the Magnu
m back from the dealer this evening. I took it in for the TSB for tranny shudder and for the code that came up last week. I was not able to talk to any mechanic or service writter, but when I got the call that the Magnum was ready, I asked if they had to replace the torque converter and he said he did not. He did the flush -- 15 quarts of ATF on the receipt -- so I am assuming that was 3 flushes if I read the TSB correctly. I am also going to assume that they flashed the memory, since all my settings are back to default. I'll do a search to determine if the flash updated the software or not. The transmission seemed to shift better, but after I felt the shudder back several weeks ago in the rain, in the dry, I can't really say I felt that same shudder afterwards. It was so obvious that day, but less so afterwards. Finally, the trans tube was repaired. I guess this will take care of the issue. I can say again, that I was treated very well by the dealer. I just wish I could have talked to the mechanic who ran the StarScan for codes so I could have more details here for you.

    Posted this again on Friday?

"This happen on Wednesday and posted here:

"Was driving into work today and at some point noticed that I had no throttle response -- it felt like the engine was off, but the RPM's were up to approximately 2000 in neutral. Got a ding and the engine light came on -- this may have been at the same time, but I'm not sure. It seemed that the engine quit, well not quit but quit responding to the throttle, and then the light came on. I got throttle resonse back and the light stayed on. This all happened in about 20 seconds. Of course, I'll go in for the light, but that odd feeling of the engine dying was quite a shock when you're in traffic and trying to figure out what the heck is going on. Has anyone had this? Does this have anything to do with the limp mode I've read about here? Any help is apreciated."

I did not get to check for codes that evening, but notiched yesterday at lunch that the engine light was off. I did the setup to check codes, but there were none stored.

Now I have no idea what happened. And now I can't recreate the problem for the dealer. If the code goes away, can I assume that the computer reset itself -- this does not sound correct, but I have no other theory.

Am I missing something? I have tried to read as much as I can by searching this problem here on the forum, but nothing even close is in the data base. Any insight is, as always, appreciated. Thanks in advance
    ."

I did find a code P0700 today -- not sure why it showed today and not yesterday. Can anyone help me on what would cause this code and how is it related to the problem above?

    Thanks again!

    Mike

Wait for FnkyChkn. He is our resident Einstein with our LXs. Be patient, he might be out of town for a weekend.

Same thing happened to me, but than it cleared and never happened again.

Thanks for the reply. I agree, if the "fabulous fowl" checks in, I'd be very happy. He is one of the best on this forum.

Looks like to you did go into limp mode. The code will be stored as long as you dont go through a drive cycle (varies from make to make) If you do, computer will clear the code . If it happens again head right to the dealer. Jmo

First off, thanks for the reply -- always appreciated.

Do you think that this is in anyway related to the transmission shudder (I believe I do have that and have not got back to the dealer yet)?

    Thanks again!

Not an expert but I'd take it to the Dealer shortly. Otherwise will fail and leave you stranded somewhere. With any luck it'll be in the middle of a storm on the Interstate somewhere.

P0700 should be followed by other codes from what I understand. I know on the Rams you get P0700 (generic you have a tranny problem code) then other P07XX codes that say what the problem is. Definately sounds like you hit limp mode, and the chances of the tranny fixing itself are kinda slim unless it was an electrical or sensor issue.

There were no other codes that came up on the EVIC. I guess that's not to say that there aren't, but the EVIC did run through the codes properly (I guess!). There seems to be not much info out here for this code, so I'll be sure to post after the dealer has been through it -- it may help someone else down the road. However, from what I've seen so far, this is not a home fix!

    Thanks again!

With these cars and miles of wiring inside of them, there is always a chance that static charge or something else will hit any of the control modules and that will cause a code. Does not mean that anything is broken, it just ECU is not getting a signal for a split second and decides something is wrong.
I had that code before, it never came back.

I just had basically the same thing happen to me as I was driving back from Chicago to Phoenix. I had only 360 miles left on my road trip back & my engine light came on but I had NO problems with anything feeling wrong. Later after 350 miles the light went off. I took my Mag in the next day to have it checked & oil changed of course. They found a code U0103 lost communication with shifter (yet I had no shifting problems at all) so they star scanned that module so it could communicate again.

    Thanks for the responses.

You're right, there are so many circuits and wires that anything can happen. I think my main concern is always what is really happening and on the LX's, I'll probably never know. And even if I did know, I could never do anything to fix it. Just how things are now. The overall reliability of these cars are so much better that in the past, but they do come with issues. I think I really need to get 63 Dodge so I can rebuild the whole car if needed.

    Thanks again, guys!!
