    My Magnum's first boo-boo

Driving on the highway this afternoon on the way to pick up my son...pass a large 18 wheeler with a trailer carrying an excavator...and a large rock comes FLYING into my windshield...left about a dime-size dent in my windshield on the passenger side....

Off to talk to the insurance adjuster tomorrow....I am so sad. I apologized to the car.

Oh, I hate that. I see a lot of dirty construction equipment and uncovered dump trucks on the highway in my area. I try to stay as far back as possible. Even use another car to block it if I can. I hope you get a nice new windshield.

I've never heard of the state paying for damages on the highway unless it was something they specifically did wrong.

    Thanks for the sympathy guys.

Yeah, it happened at night...not sure if we have some damage on the top of the vehicle...we will look again in the morning and double check the hood and the top...

I just cringed when I heard that tell-tale "CRACK" on the windshield...ikes!

Is there anything like an "SRT-8" windshield? hahahaha....

I've driven the same interstates for years. I think I've replaced 5 or 6 windshields in 6 or 7 years. Vermont doesn't understand between sand and gravel. Gravel has rocks; sand just blasts the sides of the car. Vermont is a "green" state. That means they can't affort salt. I know salt is hard on the finish, but it makes the difference of riding in the **** for 3 days versus 1 day. I like salt. It makes 80 mph easier.

If you had to apologize to the car, shouldn't you have titled this thread "My first boo-boo in my Magnum"? You made it sound like the cars fault!

Sorry to hear about the windshield. I really hate that sound too. I also try to stay far away from large trucks. Especially ones without mud flaps.

Yeah, I wasn't behind the truck...it was going very slowly on the highway, and I had to get around it like all the other vehicles in line with me....unfortunately, I took the hit for the crowd...

I did get the name of the company that owned the truck...maybe I need to cry to them!

I apologized to the car because I was sure it felt really bad that it was hit so hard...hehehehe

Some insurance policies wont cover stone chips for replacement, they may only cover a window repair,i.e. the liquid glass repair and with a deductible it may not be worth it.
Some people when they get a small chip in there windshield will go out late at night and find a really big rock and ENLARGE the original crack to ensure the Insurance company will replace the windshield.

If you are going to replace the windshield get an Original Equiptment Manufacture (OEM) windshield most aftermarket windshields are not as good quality as O.E.M. also the bill at the dealer will be higher and make it easier to adjust the numbers depending on your deductible if any on the windshield.

    Good Luck.
