Happened to me twice both times it ended up being my Lloyds mat. Little velcro stopped that.

I'll have to remember that one when my wife gets outa line.

The throttle got stuck on my Bronco once, the cable frayed and got stuck. Fortunately it was a standard tranny and was I able to shut the engine off and pull over safely.

I've never heard of this just happening by itself. Sometimes when I press my horn it beeps a couple more times by itself but other than that my car is not a Christine or in Maximum Overdrive.

Wonder if there isn't something goofy in the electronics on the '07. Last week my left turn signal stayed on regardless of what I did. Had to pull over and shut off the engine to get it to quit. Hasn't done it since.

My old Mazda 626 did that all the time, it was the floor mat. Just put on the brake and stalled out that nutless v6 and reset the floor mat. That may come in handy to tell the officer when caught doing a burnout, damned accelerator stuck, yea, thats the ticket!

1986 Ford LTD II wagon with the 3.8L V6 did that as well.

Happened to a buddies wife, twice - she slapped it into nuetral and shut if off the first time, he told to leave it running till it blew up if it did it again. It did, she did and it didn't - even after 4-5 minutes.

Some sensor failed and it went WOT... and those weren't computer controller throttles, still had a cable.

    edit: Company car, no floormats..

i used to drive a '67 impala station wagon (parents beater car ), one of the motor mounts was broken and if you got on the throttle too hard, the throttle linkage would jam, WOT city!

also owned a '72 cutlass s, and the throttle jammed on me once, i had to shut it down. forget what the problem there was. quite a rush

has never happenned to me in the magnum...

that's happened to me a half dozen times , every time thr dealer replaced the pedal , and said , it'll never happen again! Scary as hell when it happens too. Each time the pedal was replaced they had it at the shop for on average 6 days each time !! Supposedly it 's now fixed for good. We'll see.........

On the Fords, the old vacuum/electrical cruise servos had an issue with the solder used on the electrical terminals. The solder would melt over time and the servo would short internaly and the servo would force the the throttle wide open.

Ya, I remember that Audi "unintended acceleration" thing. I think the joke at the time was that the real Audi problem was not unintended acceleration, it was the lack of intended acceleration. Some of their present models have remedied the problem.
