Mag had to be towed...stuck in PARK

Well it was 5pm and I was on my way to get new tires for my Magnum (255/55-18s by the way) last night. I put in the key, engine starts but I notice the Auto-Stick gear indicator shows "8" and the Service Engine Light is on. I depress the brake pedal to shift out of Park and NO SUCH LUCK. It will not move outta PARK. So, I removed the tray to the right of the Stick and depress the pink tab...this allows me to move out of PARK and down into DRIVE, but there is a large "clunk" sound when moving in and out of PARK. I tried this 3 or 4 times hoping it was just a glitch, but it wasn't.

Ended up putting her on a flat bed last night and she is sitting at my local mechanic this morning. Just waiting to hear what they say.

    Any ideas??

Because I purchased the car used (with 25k miles) and forgot (and was not made aware by the dealer) to transfer the 7/70 warranty. By the time I knew about it the window of time to transfer was long gone :(

The same thing happened to me a couple months ago. I don't know the technical term but some plastic thingy in the shifter thingy broke. They swore it wasn't an issue with the tranny. About two months later, the O-ring on the tranny went and dropped fluid in my garage. Good luck!

How many miles you have now? If it is under 3Y/36K you still have the basic warranty which does not have to be transferred.
Transfer applies to the Powertrain Warranty (7/70) only - it does cost $150 to transfer.

46k miles on it now. The problem is that I didnt know about the 30-day window to transfer (non-Dodge dealer sold me the car) the Powertrain warranty :(

UPDATE -- spoke to Dodge and they diagnosed it as a bad Shifter Assembly. No part in stock so it will be tomorrow afternoon before I get her back. With tow it will be approx $430.00...a lot better than I was expecting.

Anyone know how/why these Assemblies crap out? Is it something the driver can cause or is it just a faulty piece??

Since you have to pay for it - ask for the old parts and lets see what happened.
